It was 1963, and I was a 16 year old high school junior, sitting attentively in an American History class, when our history teacher informed us that the national debt was 311.6 billion dollars. Being good at math even then, it was not difficult, knowing the population stood at about 180 million in 1963, that the debt amount to approximately 1600.00 for every adult and minor child in America.
My reaction, even at age 16, was one of concern and mild alarm. In 1963, 1600.00 was no small sum of money for the typical American; adjusted for ” inflation “, today that sum is roughly equivalent to at least 8000.00, and for a typical American, remains a considerable sum of money.
Back in 1963 however, the ensuing half-century of America’s wild ride of financial misadventures, and a ” Wild West Gunslinger ” mentality in all levels of government, of ” shoot money at everything first, and ask what it costs later ” ( if anyone asked the cost at all ) was just seriously getting underway. As late as 1963, America’s total debt was substantially the result of understandable deficit spending to win the Second World War ($226 billion) and literally save the civilized world from totalitarian Fascists known as the Axis Powers. In 1963, the WW II borrowing accounted for 72% of the national debt.

Thirty even twenty years ago predictions would be that this level of debt cause post WWI Germany type inflation, but its not. (and a some did just a few years ago)
Gas prices are much lower than anyone has predicted.
Given no obvious symptoms, its impossible to get anyone really interested in this.(to the point at which they would sacrifice)
True enough, no one cares until it is THEIR ox getting gored!
And the Democrats swear up and down that a single penny lost will mean millions of children will be begging in the streets, “Please sir, may I have s’more?”
But, the fact is, this article is 1000% correct! Until we cut spending to the BONE (and even amputate a few useless limbs (entire alphabet agencies)), we will NOT be able to sustain America! PERIOD!

Nothing like making a population dependent on government transportation ... makes that population very easy to control.
Alright, the article says our debt is about $56,000 per American, but that is still an inaccurate picture, because many Americans won’t hold a job or pay taxes, perhaps for their entire lives. Their portion of that debt must be redistributed to the rest of us, so our share of the debt is actually higher.
My Maryland neighborhood is full of recent immigrants from Korea and India, moved here because they want their kids in this county's public schools.
They like posting bumper stickers on their cars bragging about their kids school grades. Two parent opposite sex married parent families, just like when we were kids here.
Those parts of Baltimore are like another universe from here.
May God grant it stays that way.
