DAYTON, Ohio A southwest Ohio police department is implementing mandatory training for reducing lethal force used on dogs.
Dayton's 300 police officers are receiving the training on how to approach and handle dogs as the weather warms up and calls regarding lose or aggressive dogs increase.
The Dayton Daily News reports 49 dogs have been shot by Dayton police since 2011. The shootings occurred during a variety of calls, including domestic violence incidents, drug raids and reports of loose or aggressive dogs.
An animal control supervisor with the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center says the training teaches officers ways to calmly approach dogs and identify temperament cues signaling that a dog may attack.
The animal resource center says owners can also help by warning responding officers that they have a dog.
Hopefully they will also train them not to toss flash bangs into baby cribs too.
Cynic...
Those events are terrible accidents.
Dynamic entry into a house full of children is NO accident.
Don’t change the subject. You specifically mentioned flashbangs in cribs. That was an accident. One for which all parties involved paid dearly.
I didnt change the subject....and NO one paid dearly other than the child and the family....the cops fully absolved themselves of all wrong doing.

No different than Aiyana Jones 7 years old and shot in the head.....these arent “accidents”...they are a direct result of Police policies of dynamic entry.....lust like dog shootings.
Funny, but I never thought "Not being indicted" would be considered "paying dearly".
Losing your job, your career and pension would be considered just and "paying dearly", none of which happened.
If you mean, the Family and the boy, paying dearly, that's certainly true considering the state refused to pay for the damaged caused by it's enforcers.
And before that none without court order. Hmmmm.
Does Dayton have Obama's pacification forces?
Nobody paid for it except the kid’s family. Thug cops protected each other and the cops were absolved of wrongdoing.
Well, Rover might be breath3ing a little easier tonight in Dayton.
Tossing a grenade into an American’s home was a premeditated crime. Not one officer was fired. Not one dime of restitution was paid. The police ruled that they acted properly.
He was a baby meth dealer. The War on Drugs is for the children. /s /s/ /s
You have no idea what you’re talking about, nor the others who replied to me. I don’t see any reason to try and have further discussion; It appears you’ve made up your mind and are committed to your armchair law enforcement opinions without having all the facts. But that’s your right and I respect that. Pray you never have to go through the hell from an accident like the event you mention; that if you ever have to call/deal with the police all goes perfectly well for you and your family. Good evening.
Paws up! Don’t shoot!
Negligence is no accident....it's an event caused by stupidity with an air of superiority.
A flash bang into a baby crib is no accident...it's negligence...and it's legally actionable if YOU did it.
Police?...not so much.
An insult laced with prayer is still an insult.
I pray nothing like this happens to you or yours....because I'm sure you wont be so forgiving.
And btw.....if several freepers correct you....odds are you are in error.....food for thought.
