McDonalds announced that over 90,000 employees will receive a pay raise effective July 1, 2015. After recent employee protests and slow sales, McDonalds appears to be raising salaries to solve employee relation problems and improve its image with consumers.
Charging more for the same crap so we can pay the lazy and reward them for having big mouths
But they are going to have to train the robots that will soon replace them.
McDonald's raises pay for 90,000 workers
The key point in this article: this raise is for company-owned restaurants, which account for about 10% of all McDonald's in the US.
Their dollar burger will now be close to $2.
Both business models rely on hiring workers from the lower economic pool of workers willing to work at minimum skills jobs...at minimum wages scales..
That pool of workers have become extremely unproductive, unmotivated, lazy, have a entitlement mentality, rude, obnoxious that is hurting their business model...
Losing sales, customers and repeat business
The solution is pay more to get better workers and more productive workers...whatever cost in additional labor will pay for itself in time...
You can't build your business future relying on illiterate, ill-mannered ghetto rats...
Gosh! I sure hope it’s enough! Perhaps 100k per year for the French fry guy? Will that do it? Or will more be necessary? Whatever it takes. As long as they’re happy. Being stupid is very expensive.
Make the 299,999,999 as no matter how McDonald tried to improve their image until they start making food that tastes good, I will not eat there. (Except for the desserts on occasion)
This.
I haven’t been to Macs lately. Seems like the burgers had shrunk to the size of a half-dollar.
I dont know why people are dogging them. I would prefer them raising wages this way than through government mandate. I rarely eat there anymore anyways but this wouldnt keep me away anyways.
I don’t usually eat fast food.
But I am in the middle of moving from my old house to a newer one. Lack of appliances and just plain convenience, means I eat fast food from time to time.
McDonalds came about when I was about 16 or so. They had a Big Mac which became my favorite item and remains so to the day. But I noticed a few weeks ago that it is expensive! You’re right, any more expensive and I won’t buy it.
The getto rats just pushed themselves out of a job....
Will the pay raise change their crappy attitudes and the crummy food? Enquiring minds want to know.
“improve its image with consumers”
Consumers don’t give a crap about how McD’s hires, fires, or pays their employees.
Only one thing will change their image: make actual food that actually tastes like, well, actual food. That and provide a safe, family-friendly environment in their restaurants. Of course, McD’s isn’t interested in the latter, so the former isn’t really necessary.
Interesting story. Great comments here, as usual. I went to McDonald’s last evening in Oxnard, CA (first time in over a year) and ordered a hamburger, sat down, waited twelve minutes, walked up to the counter. The nice young lady said, “They forgot.” I said, No problem. After 15 minutes I received the hamburger half cooked, ate it and departed.
The big store had one other customer, three people working and dim lighting. Looked like a ghost town. Sad.
...the ones who manage to keep their jobs.
Unless that raise is somehow subsidized by taxpayers it won’t be coming from me.
fix the product first, McD, if your company is to survive.
fix the product.
you now have several competitors selling visibly MUCH MUCH higher quality burgers
and your prices for your much less appealing chow ...are creeping up close to theirs, too.. close enough that most consumers just won’t put up anymore with what seems to be greatly inferior grub. (Start with reducing the apparently chemical overload....then get some meat that is recognizably beef....then put more of it in the sandwiches, then improve the quality of the buns....then put a real slice of cheese in your fishburger...be sure to remove any extra chemicals from everything.....) etc. etc.
imho.
we used to enjoy McD’s. we are now eating across the street at the new, much much better burger joint.
