A University of Saskatchewan student has gotten several bars to take down washroom signs, saying they promote "violence against women" and that the response to her initial concerns was a "very typical misogynistic, patriarchal response."
The sign in question, which was up at a Canadian Brewhouse, is meant to portray a blue, male stick figure looking at a pink, female stick figure. It is meant to be funny and show that men like to look at women.
Not so says Reanne Risdale, who is 29. Instead, she sees the sign as threatening to women, insensitive, and referenced Bill Cosby when explaining why the sign could lead to harassment of women. "That is totally not OK," she explained.
When she went to the manager, according to Risdale, "He said if I don't like the sign, maybe this is not the place for me." She continued, "That is a very typical misogynistic, patriarchal response: I'm being too sensitive. For lack of a better word, I'm being an emotional woman, I should just leave." The manager said he is "baffled" by Risdale's account of her interaction with him.
Regardless, Canadian Brewhouse has removed all of the signs, which were up at several of their bars in Canada. Risdale, according to Canadian Brewhouse's marketing director Karen Paulgaard, was the first person to find the sign offensive.

A 29 year-old college student?
Woman is carrying some serious baggage.
Come one, it’s a silly sign.
It’s a creepy sign and worth complaining about. A disgusting sense of humor is at fault, not patriarchy.
Not a bad response, in my opinion. If enough people take their business elsewhere then the market will have spoken and the owner will either change his decor or go out of business.
And if the signs do not noticeably effect business, then the market will also have spoken, and maybe that business is NOT the place for her overly sensitive self.
Please tell me you don’t actually think that someone would take that sign seriously.
...or trying to get a peak at that freak, Bridget Jenner.
A “glory hole” sign for the men’s room would be silly, too.
Just explain that its a gay man climbing on to a very large sex toy or what we in the US would call a medium sized sex toy.
Yes it would.
But being silly is not the same thing as harassing, and silliness is not “misogynistic and patriarchal”
Is she is in jail?
Well, Lesbian Studies isn’t one of those majors you’re just going to get lickety-split. Oh, wait....
No, but it's not the opposite, either. It can be both. Silliness can also be misogynistic, too ... although "patriarchal" is rather more unlikely. Patriarchy has some dignity.
The sign: not good.
The feminist’s language (”patriarchy,” etc.): not good, either.
Stay out of bars.
Where I used to work, there was a men's room that adjoined a woman's room, and the end stalls in each were separated by a wall. Well, instead of working, someone bored a hole through the wall so they could peep into the stall on the other side. I'm assuming it was a man that did that, but you never know.
Someone complained, and they put up a steel plate to prevent another peep hole from being bored.
Reanne, please do us all a favor and get a sense of humor. Barring that - just STFU.
Does she look anything like ValJar or Shrillary?
