What does everyone think of a music play-off bracket-type poll for best songs of the '80s?
Jethro Tull’s album Broadsword and the Beast (1982). I think I went through 5 taped copies of this in college when I was doing all nighters.
The Ramones - Do you remember Rock and Roll (I think 1980)
Definitely a classic!
“Ill take hank Sr. over Jr. any day.”
Hillbilly Shakespeare wasn’t just an empty catch phrase.
Hank Sr is all time classic head and shoulders above just about any musical artist of the modern era.
Rock music peaked in the 70s, but top 40 had one more good decade left in it.
When I think of the "eightiesest" 80s music, I tend to think of (in no particular order):
Not necessarily the best music of the time, or my favourite music of the time, but that which IMO best defines the radio of the decade.
I always thought Audioslave could have done a great cover of House of the Rising Sun. Chris Cornell has the right voice for it.

You got it! You list pieces that are more typical themselves, and more typify the most-loved music. The essence, the culture, the style of the times.
Though they didn't have Dio then, I saw Deep Purple in '85.
Also saw Rainbow, again without Dio, in '82/'83/?
Have you heard his version of Billie Jean? (Youtube video)
Never much even paid attention to it until I heard this.
I saw Dio at the Worcester Centrum on a Halloween night...an amazing show! Can’t remember who opened...not that it mattered. Also saw Rainbow in a small upstate NY theater from the SECOND row (Bonnet was the lead on that tour). But the big bonus was the opening act; Gamma with Ronnie Montrose on lead guitar. Blackmore and Montrose on the same bill? To die for.
Almost forgot...Deep Purple and post-Paul Rodgers Bad Company in St. Louis circa 1986...
Cornell appears to be a survivor among so many of the singers who appeared around the same time. Heroin addiction burned through that bunch like a wildfire.
He’s the same age I am (50) and just can’t do that crap anymore.
Add Tainted Love to that 80est list.
Sorry I gag at your selections.
Regrettably I never saw Triumph or Foghat.....Point Who?????
Yes.......I mean the BAND Yes. One of the few so called progressive rock bands of the 70s that fit in well with the rest of the crap in the 80s
He does remind me to someone else but doggone if I can put my finger on who it is.
Here, let me help.

In no particular order:
The Cure - In Between Days
The Cure - Just Like Heaven
The Clash - Rock the Casbah
The Clash - Brand New Cadillac
John Mellencamp - Rain On The Scarecrow
Tom Petty - Won't Back Down
SRV - Texas Flood
SRV - Couldn't Stand the Weather
ZZ Top - Legs
Pretenders - Precious
Tracy Champman - Fast Car
Prince - When Doves Cry
Probably nothing on this list with the exception of When Doves Cry that made it "big", but heck, I can't remember. Pretty much what I (still) like about the decade.
I might add that there's probably a Rolling Stones song or two that belongs on that list but for them the decades kinda run into each other.
