The Internet is utterly scandalized.
With a burgeoning primary comes Freedom of Information Act requests, and three reporters at Buzzfeed (three reporters), were apparently tasked with using FOIA to reveal the horrors of Ted Cruz's adolescent years. Pursuant to that mission, they came into possession of Cruz's 2003 application to be Solicitor General of Texas.
In a shocking revelation from the documents that surprises absolutely no one who spent any fraction of their late teens in the company of other people in their late teens, it turns out Ted Cruz was once ticketed for possessing alcohol as a minor, after a 1987 police stop that revealed an unopened case of cheap beer in his trunk. The Presidential contender then pled guilty to the misdemeanor. And then, decades later, an Internet news organization is utterly scandalized.
In an application for the position, accessed via a Texas Public Information request, Cruz listed among his references Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist whom he clerked for. The application also reveals Cruzs past salaries as an attorney, his recent legal record, speeches, professional associations, and a 1987 guilty plea for possession of alcohol as a minor.
An aide to Sen.Cruz said he was a senior in high school and got pulled over and they found an unopened case of beer and he received a ticket.
Teenagers often make foolish mistakes, and that certainly applied to me as well, Cruz said in a statement provided to BuzzFeed News.
Let's be clear. Cruz was not arrested then, or now, for public intoxication. He was charged with a crime, pled guilty and, one can assume since no bench warrant was issued for non-payment, that he both attended his day in court and paid the ticket in full.....

There goes his Evangelical voters!!
Yeah, sure.
the Media is like that cartoon of Albert Einstein - The difference between stupidity and genius, ... Genius has its limits! The media is like a yo yo it will go up and down until it is stopped but eventually the operator of the yo yo will put it down and walk away.
What is a MIP? the acronym just fails me right now or simply it is too early in the AM for my brain to decipher it.
Meanwhile on another thread of the same subject .... the important question is .... just what kind of beer was it?
Well, in his yoot, Cruz was a bad boy. Women like the bad boy image.
I guess he should have smoked crack like Obama and it would have been fine.
This is indeed amusing. That THIS is what they choose to hang their scandal hat on shows there’s nothing better out there.
Amazing how days after Romney announces he is running for the 10th time this is found?
Pray America is waking
Just a guess, but Minor In Possession (of alcohol)?
Really?
I'm an Evangelical and the only thing that wrinkles my nose about the story is the beer. I prefer a glass of wine now and then.
Best not to paint with a broad brush, sometimes.
Eventually it will come out that Willard got caught driving around with a bag of coffee in his front seat.
LOL, nice pic.
You know damn well that a TON of Evangelicals didn’t vote for W after the DUI came out.
I don't know a single Evangelical who was influenced by that, and believe me, in rural central VA, that's the majority. Not ONE in my acquaintance let that stop him or her from voting.
That was a theory put forth by Karl Rove, hardly a friend to social conservatives.
Besides, if you'd do a little thinking, you'd realize that any votes lost were due not to the simple act of having a drink, but to drinking, driving, and getting arrested. Correct? So, unless you're implying that Catholics condone drunk driving, some in your own denomination could have stayed home, too.
Sorry, your broad brush just isn't working.
Minor In Possession
This’ll give him a boost with the Joe-Sixpack vote.
idiocy.
