In an article published yesterday, Salon writer Brittney Cooper wrote about an encounter on a subway that she deemed extremely racist.
The article, called Listen when I talk to you!: How white entitlement marred my trip to a Ferguson teach-in, Cooper began the story by explaining that she was on a train bound for Ferguson for a "teach-in."
At the time of the encounter, Cooper writes, the train was "full." More than that, she couldn't hear anything going on and was ignoring people trying to sit down because she had her "beats headphones on." And though the train was full, she decided that she could go ahead and take an extra seat for her carry-on bag.
Then it happened, Cooper writes. "I suddenly saw a white hand shoving my work carry-on toward me," she explains. "Startled, I looked up to see the hand belonged to a white guy." Stunningly, the "white guy" wanted to take the seat next to Cooper and was handing her the bag so that he wouldn't sit on it.
Cooper took immediate exception to the gesture and said, Never put your hands on my property. To Cooper's amazement, the "white guy" had the gall to say that he asked her to move her bag so he could sit, and that she didn't hear him because of her headphones, saying, Well, you should listen when I talk to you.
Cooper explains then that she knew she was dealing with a racist.

No she was dealing with someone treating her as less the African Goddess she apparently thinks she is.
Her attitude toward a white man who had the gall to speak to her exactly mirrors that of Queen Michele who was so offended that a white person (a short, elderly woman iirc) would ask her to extend a common courtesy.
Stupid white guy.
Next time he’ll know better and just shove her **** on the floor and sit down.
Course then the ABF (Angry Black Female) will go all ape bleep.
The train was “full,” and she’s sitting there with her suitcase occupying the seat next to her, is that what she’s saying?
The guy did and said what he did not because she’s black but because she’s an arrogant beeyotch.
She should be happy that it was so clearly NOT a case of racism.
And people wonder why black men don’t want to marry...
Read her account and in every instance she says “white” substitute “black” and for every “black” substitute “white”.
She comes off sounding like a Klansman.
I guess she just doesn’t realize that racism starts with her and her attitude towards other races.
If they keep this crap up they WILL be dealing with some “racists” and they won’t like what happens at that point.
Learned from the master Mooshelle
What an arrogant clod.
Here in New York, the cops will arrest you for occupying more than one seat on the subway, even if the train is mostly empty.
The bag must have been cover for her spreading over the two seats.
This is pretty funny. If she were really the queen she thought she was, she wouldn’t be riding the lowly trains or needing her ‘tude and her tunes to fend off imaginary racists.
Does anyone see the irony here, i.e., Rosa Parks. She refused to let the guy sit next to her. Maybe SHE is the racist.
She is definitely a 2 bagger and a 2 seater...that must make me a racist...
More like Rosa PORKs. Or RACIST PORKs.
This cooper racist is such a whiny loser. If she hadn’t taken 2 seats, maybe the guy wouldn’t have moved her trash. To top it off, this LIB asshat is most likely weight-challenged so she probably takes up several spaces anyway.
I’m amazed how often a black woman will get in front of me, and then slow down, intentionally getting in the way. It happens most noticeably in the supermarket. I think dominating a white man (me) is great sport for them.
I just chalk it up as one more affirmation that generalization is okay when I hire. Tit for tat.
When I lived in Milwaukee, I had a Black buddy who went to Marquette. He would not date black women! He said they were racist, nasty pieces of work. He married a lovely blonde, worked his butt off, and is very successful. His children are beautiful, and they are very happy together. A good man!
“A scholar of Black women’s intellectual history, Black feminist thought, and race and gender in popular culture, Dr. Cooper writes extensively about both historic and contemporary iterations of Black feminist theorizing.”

Rosa PORK is more like it.
