In this dramatic video of an attempted armed robbery of a gunshop in Springdale, Arkansas, on December 6, 2014, one robber is wounded, and the gunshop owner is hit by a spent bullet that does not break the skin.

The two suspects, Marcus Gould, and Leon Roberson, are from California and are in custody.  Gould has a long criminal record, and was wounded in the arm by a shot fired by Shirley Cornett, who owns the store with her husband.   A bullet fired back was slowed by coin books on the counter before it hit Shirley.  From 5newsonline.com:

Police said 25-year-old Marcus Gould and 20-year-old Leon Roberson are in custody after attempting to rob the store carrying semi-automatic pistols. They said the owner, Shirley Cornett, pulled out her .38 revolver and shot Gould in the arm as he was jumping over the counter towards her husband, Clint.

Owner Clint Cornett spoke to 5NEWS about the incident at their home Sunday night. Cornett said his wife was still very shaken up, and said the bullet that Gould fired back at her hit a stack of books on the counter, then hit her chest. He said the bullet did not break her skin.
It appears that more than four shots were fired. One or two by Shirley, at least one by Gould, and at least two by Roberson.

Roberson is in the red hoodie, Gould in the grey.  If you watch the video carefully, you can see that Roberson is having trouble with his semi-auto.  He repeatedly works the action, as if it were manually operated.  He may not have had a round in the chamber when they entered the store.

As he leaves the store, the slide is locked back, indicating that he is out of cartridges.  It appears that he has only fired two shots.  While not clear, he may have his eyes closed as he fires the first shot; the second seems to be an unexpected discharge into the floor.

As the pair of suspects enter the store, their appearance fairly screams out danger.  They both have hoodies on, Gould also has some sort of cover over his head.

I wonder if an AR or shotgun in the hands of an employee or store owner behind the counter would have caused the pair to reconsider their robbery plans.

It all happened very fast, less than a minute from the time they drew guns until they are out of the store.

There was a previous armed robbery attempt in 2010:
Bullets flew across Thompson Street on Tuesday after employees of a pawn shop thwarted an armed robbery.
Shots fired at the robber zipped from C&S Gun Shop across Thompson and hit the plate glass window of P&N Oriental Market. Witnesses said shots also hit a silver or tan vehicle used as a getaway car.

OK this chit is getting out of hand. Someone is going to get killed, if these store owners and clerks continue shooting poor hardworking armed robbers.
Until the government comes up with some firearm training for would be armed robbers, I would think the minimum they would do is ban the ownership and use of firearms by store owners and clerks.

You say that in jest, but that is exactly the case in most of the world. It is the case in Canada, to our North, Mexico, to our South, Nearly all of Europe, with the exception of Switzerland, and perhaps the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia. It is certainly the Case in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and China.

The United States is an exceptional and blessed country.

I dislike the idea of a shootout. That is, them shooting at you, too. This is why in situations like this, I am a big believer in double-door “airlock” entrances.

They are pretty simple in concept. A strong steel frame holding thick laminate panels. A sign outside the door says “One person at a time. No hats, hoodies, or sunglasses, please. Doorbell to request entry.” An employee pushes a buzzer to unlock the outer door.

The inner door cannot open until the outer door is shut and locked, and visa versa. Then the other door *may* be opened.

The last trick is that the employees guns have steel bullets, that can penetrate laminate. So, their bullets can’t leave the box, but yours can pass right through.

Sure you can. You have a better imagination than that! Stupidity is only limited by mortality!

“Train, train, train, and buy quality hardware.”

You think they actually bought that hardware?

You’d think after the first robbery the store owners would have learned their lesson about using wheel guns. They’re just lucky they survived this attack.

“I am a big believer in double-door “airlock” entrances.”

A good idea for retail outlets that are at risk.

It is a variation of what I call “stand off barriers”.

The idea is to keep the people wishing entry at a distance and observable until you decide to let them in.... or not.

I’ve seen that in some high end jewelry stores.

Ok, you're probably right, if I try I guess I *could* conceive of someone stupid enough to try. I've watched enough YouTube "fail" videos to realize people are stupid enough to try lots of things that a sane/rational person knows just are not going to work.

But at that level of disconnect from reality, how would the feed and clothe themselves without assistance? ;-)

The only places I have seen that regularly around here are coin shops. Great idea. I would think it would be more common the closer to mid-city we get, for all kinds of stores.

Who said lynchings? YOU want to shoot them. Hanging is a much better punishment and makes for a better example. Don’t associate the ropes with KKK lynchings. Not the same thing.

Is there a thug so stupid as to fire a gun while in an “air lock” style door? Wouldn’t the muzzle blast be enough to cause bleeding ears?

Or does their half empty cranium allow for absorbtion of the sound?
