Dogs and guns have been an effective crime stopping combination for as long as people have possessed them. They were proven effective once again in Butler County, Ohio. The suspect broke out a basement window to gain access to the rural home of Brian Hiner. Brian woke to the alarmed barks of his dogs, which appear to black and golden Labradors. He then heard the intruder coming up the basement stairs, called the sheriff, and held Michael Roberts, pictured above, at gunpoint for the responding deputies.
"I was home sending an email to my teachers about homework when my dogs started barking and I looked out the window but I didn't see anybody there so I went to the top of the stairs with the gun to make sure there wasn't anybody downstairs and then that's when the door opened and I saw him," said Justin Kugler.
Kugler says he was pretty scared because he noticed Roberts had a knife on him, but he was armed and ready for Roberts at the top of the stairs.
"I told him to get out of the house or I'm going to shoot you," said Justin Kugler.
We’ve had German Shepherds on the farm for decades.Recently added a Rottweiler to the group, for a little extra canine muscle.Break into our house and you get to deal with the dogs first, which is actually a lot better than having to deal with me or my wife.
They’re effective in urban environments too. A 6 foot chain link fence makes the combination even better.
We added a doberman to our pack when things started going south in our town. You can’t come anywhere near our property without him going ape sh**. He’s just as nice as can be when we’re at the park though. Our imediate neighbors have rottweilers, pit bulls and german shepards.
This is something of a first. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of an armed robber confronted by a gun and arrested, escaping and trying another armed robbery, only to be greeted by a gun again. And not getting shot at all.
That fool’s guardian angel was working overtime, but could have saved a lot of effort had he just imparted the fool with some brains or common sense.
Works for us too. My Doberman will rip the face off anyone who messes with me. Intruders won’t even get past the door before getting some body part chewed off. I think they’d actually crap their pants just from his bark. LOL. He’s a keeper.
There was a break-in last year where the school girl (home alone) had her headphones on and didn’t hear the guy in the house. He comes into the living room where they see each other and she screams. Luckily the guy bolted out of the house.
The girl ran over the neighbor’s house to call 911. She and the neighbor are standing at the door and see the guy run back into the girl’s house (front door open), grabs some stuff, and then leaves again! Too bad the neighbor didn’t have a shotgun ready.
The whole story proves that most people are very reluctant to shoot someone.
too much restraint. half measures when a full measure was needed.
Mine will alert me but little else but that’s fine.
Its good to have stories like that to beat liberals over the head with.
A few years ago a local armed man stabbed an attacker in the leg and shoulder. Said he didn’t want to shoot the guy for being a drunken idiot.
How did the perp escape the sheriff’s deputies? Not very confidence inspiring, is it?
My son’s retired K-9, a Belgian Malinois, is our house guardian. If you feel like feeding her, come on over. You can be her dinner guest. She’ll lick you to death. Now it is my son’s Ruger you’ve got to watch out for.
The 'fool's' Meth addiction was working overtime. When they need a fix, they don't calculate the odds of getting their heads blown off.
It's never, even if necessary, a good thing to kill another person. Restraint is a good thing. I applaud these people for their restraint.
the very next thing he did was break into another home.
don’t let it become somebody else’s problem. it could end far worse for them.
and i never said it was a good thing. but murder is worse. killing in self defense i can live with. even stopping a fleeing felon that’s danerous.
I would kill them for going after anyone I cared for, including my family, my neighbors or myself.
I hope you are never in that situation, but don't be trigger happy. Quick decisions are more often than not, bad decisions.
So, what would you do if you found this fool in your house coming at you? Give him a beer? Introduce him to your daughter?
He already answered that question.
