This is the final part of the post. By this point, if you don't agree with my point of view, then I can respect your position. If it's fun for you, that's fine. Fun has a cost, and for my family, the cost of "Halloween fun" is way too high.

I'd rather be thought a fool by men and wise by God than thought wise by men and a fool by God.

Here we go again!

I do admit that in the last 20 years, Halloween in American inner cities has been a disaster - called Devil’s Night. Of course, this Holy Day was never meant to be that. It’s simply a very European attitude towards honoring the dead. Which I do every Halloween. A candle for a loved one! And a bit of candy for a sweet child at the door dressed up in her finest.

Sorry, I only read the excerpt as that was plenty.

I was ruined as a kid? That seems odd as I have lived a long, happy and fruitful life. My daughter is quite well-adjusted too.

Obsession with evil gives evil the power to dwell in your mind. I suggest you turn away from evil and think positive.

Halloween is the only day on the calendar dedicated to the ignorant. Embrace Halloween, and you are embracing ignorance of God, ignorance of everything good, everything bright, warm, illuminated, and glad in your life. You are embracing fear, darkness, death and mayhem.

Sounds like you're doing it wrong.

Halloween is about FREE CANDY! As a kid with very little access to sweets, I could dress like a ghost or hobo, ring any doorbell in the neighborhood and the good folks would fill my bag with CANDY! For FREE! It was better than any other holiday for a kid, with the possible exception of Christmas. I say possible, because I never got a pair of socks for Halloween, but I never got chemistry set either.

For the last few years, every October someone, who has forgotten their childhood, comes up with this crap. As far as I'm concerned, these are folks that feel that a smile or the laugh of a child is somehow an affront to our Lord. I shake my head and wonder at the smallness of some people.

Here we go again.

This is becoming as predictable as a political advertising and every bit as boring.

It’s harmless, but some lawn displays go too far with their fascination with death.

I never even considered having my kids involved in Halloween. I just saw the roots of it, the overtones of evil, and that was enough for me. Thanks, but no thanks.

I don’t make a big deal of it. It’s just something that never appealed to me. As well, my kids are just fine. In fact, as Christians, they appreciated my going against the flow and standing up against it. I was quite taken aback that there were only 2 other families in our little private Christian school who didn’t participate. To me it was a no-brainer.

Those heathens are goin’ ta HEY-Yell. They probably even go to a church that don’t a have an old lady playing organ music. (/sarc)

Some people are really bothered by the idea that other people might be having fun.

As they would say on a Geico commercial, “Halloween is stupid because it doesn’t have a brain.”

I pitched a fit, but my parents made me stop trick-or-treating due to the dental bills. The upside is, I haven't had a cavity in 2 years!

(Thank you! I'm here all week!)

These anti-Hallowe’en screeds always eventually get around to Catholic bashing.

It is preposterous to believe that people here on earth can pray for us, yet lose the ability to do so the instant they die.

Oh this is ridiculous. Kids in costumes hanging with family and neighbors and getting some candy.

No. The Bible is NOT against this in any way.

Halloween is a little harmless fun. It doesn’t have to be about scary things, it can be about the Fall harvest, pumpkin patches, etc. People do like a good scare too, it’s fun and makes most of us laugh.

So All Hallows Eve is not Catholic?

Trying to figure out where you got this erroneous information.

Just one person’s blog. He doesn’t even mention his religion; he just brags about himself.

About This Blog

This blog is about you and your world view. You’ve got a world view, and I have a world view. Everybody’s got one, whether you know it or not.
Apathy is the enemy. If you don’t care and don’t know what you do care about, then you are probably rotting your brain in front of the TV all day.

________________________________________

I am on a journey like all of us. I grew up in New Hampshire, attended college there, and have worked in business and technology for over 25 years. I’ve founded three companies and sold two of them (one didn’t make it). I’ve climbed the corporate ladder of “success”, serving as a business leader, CEO, and General Manager of various businesses.
I’ve found that leading is serving.
Being a boss is 100% responsibility and 0% authority of position. Without leadership, there is no authority to direct others. Bosses who direct using fear and intimidation are not leaders at all, and are irresponsible to themselves, their employees, and ultimately their customers.
These days, I live in Georgia, and this blog is an extension of my world view, to help others, by planting and watering seeds of righteousness.
What’s righteousness? That means knowing what you believe before God and man, and living it out day by day. I am a friend of God, and a friend of people, and I hope to give others the same gifts and blessings I’ve been so graciously given.
I have a beautiful wife and two wonderful young boys. They are my treasure.
