WHO still pushing to collect a global tobacco tax

The unelected and unaccountable sages at the World Health Organization (WHO) can’t seem to help themselves or resist the temptation to try to regulate the behavior of everyone on the planet. This is a shame, really, because a group like that could actually do some good if they stuck to trying to get basic supplies and medical care to people in remote, poverty stricken countries. But rather than devoting themselves to such laudable goals, they’re once again pushing to get every government on the planet to jack up sin taxes on tobacco.(This is something they’ve tried before, as I wrote about in 2012.) And the new proposal is a whopper.

It will be a very cold day in hell before I pay a “world” tax.

Yeah let’s legalize marijuana but make tobacco illegal.

That’s the ticket to better health

The WHO’s will want to tax that too.

We live in a society that we are scared to buy to cans of soda pop because it might violate Big Gulp policies. God forbid that a child might take a slice of pizza to school. They will tax that too.

Another nitwit wants to place a penny tax on every teaspoon of sugar.

But they are not fascists, they are “progressives”.

We won't have a choice. Most likely it will be a carbon tax on necessities like food.

It’s bad enough to pay tax to our tyrannical government. Paying tax to “the world” is unacceptable. What had “the world” ever done for me?

I lived in Paris, France for 3 months this summer. A pack of Winston’s would run you 8 Euros (almost $11 US). This creates a huge black market, as you can get the same cigarettes in Egypt for around 80 cents a pack. Millions and millions of packs of cigarettes are being illegally shipped into France.

Best place to buy black market cigarettes in Paris is at the Barbès - Rochechouar Metro station. You don’t even have to leave the station. You just hold up a pack of cigarettes and they come running. You can get a carton of L&M cigarettes for 40 Euro, about half the legal price.

The market always wins.
