FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOX) - The protests and riots in Ferguson highlighted what many already knewresidents in many North St. Louis county towns are facing unemployment, poverty and lack of educational achievement.
Organizers say a job and resource fair on Saturday, Sept. 13 is designed to tackle those issues.
Were all alarmed by the situation and events that are happening, but Im hoping that out of that something good can come out of it, and thats getting people jobs and getting folks back into the educational setting, says St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley Interim President Ruby Curry.
The Urban League of Metro St. Louis teamed up with St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley to create the fair in record time.
Curry says the school has had job fairs in the past with 60 companies.
This year, with this event, we believe well have 86 employment vendors and 33 resource vendors, Curry says.
The resources will include free groceries and toiletries. Curry says there will be on-site interviews, so those looking for work should come dressed appropriately.
The job and resource fair will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Florissant Valley campus on Pershall Road in Ferguson.
They burned down a lot of businesses. QT will not rebuild. What jobs? They ran them all out of there.
That may be, but millions of formerly American jobs are now being done in China.
Just saying.
Bring back jobs to America.
“yo yo yo yo where my JOB at??”
“how much yall payin me”?
“how many coffee breaks I get”?
yup this job fair is Im certain going to convince thousands of aspiring rappers...to seek employment in the “wite man’s” world”
Jobs available are community organizers, rock quarry workers, liquor delivery, forest fire experts, windshield replacement specialists,
“Job Fair’s” — what an archaic concept. Who wants to go stand in line for hours with thousands of other people to drop your resume off in a basket with some disinterested “recruiter” sitting behind the desk. What a colossal waste of time.
Clearly we need free broadband access and laptops for all of our disadvantaged citizens together with free classes on how to turn the things on. Another trillion of deficit ought to do it.
“Will your business work out if Ferguson?”
“No, No, no...*chuckle* we’re not crazy....”
"Yeah, I be likin' that free sh#t!"
Nothing motivates employment like handouts, right?
I’m just saying.
Four administrations, from both parties, have enthusiastically stood behind America’s factories as they moved to China.
The thing is, they didn’t really. They sold to China, who won a majority interest in the factories.
All the cr@p you buy, which is made in China, was made in a factory which is majority owned by China.
Enough.
Bring back American manufacturing.
GOP. democrats. Someone stand up for American jobs.
I could show anybody between 18 and 80+ with even basic English and some personal hygiene how to make six figures within a year or two, but there are a few catches:
There's work involved.
You don't get paid until a sale is made.
There's a one-time small investment.
There's work involved.
You have to do as you're told and take instruction.
You can't be hangin' wit' your homies all the time.
The sort of people who need to be bribed with free groceries and goods to show up for a job fair probably aren't the kind of people anyone would want to hire.
You can’t be hangin’ wit’ your homies all the time.
thats axin WAY too much.
it breaks the CODE!!
Obviously, this is not a serious undertaking. The jobs fair is window dressing to placate the unemployable.
“til unemployment start to fall
I’m hanging out down to the mall”
an approximation of actual rap “lyrics” from about twenty years ago
What you are describing is actual work, actual intense effort put forth to sell a product. Sadly too many want to hang with the homeboys and not learn and work in ways you are describing.
Naturally they're are also doing voter registration at this "job fair".
You can’t bring jobs back to America without Congress repealing the thousands of useless regulations that hamstring businesses and drive up the cost of doing business in America. Coupled with that, businesses need to learn and implement lean manufacturing principles to get their own houses in order so that they can operate more efficiently.
America cannot afford to lose our industrial base.
Bring back American jobs.
Yet they’d be driving the BMW of their choice (company program), taking luxury vacations on the company, making six or seven figures and living the dream, just by talking to enough people and persuading them to buy some products. It amazes me. My late father said the people who had money during the Depression were the salesmen. Ask a Depression-era individual and see if it isn’t so...
