QuikTrip coming to grips with destruction of Ferguson store
St. Louis Business Journal's BizTalk ^ | August 11, 2014 | Ben Unglesbee

Updated with information about the Wal-Mart that was damaged Sunday night.

Sunday night’s unrest in Ferguson left the QuikTrip at 9420 West Florissant Ave. a burned wreckage. At the moment the company has no plans for rebuilding or even a process for how to make that decision; it has never faced a similar situation.

QuikTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh said there have been “no discussions whatsoever” about whether to rebuild. Instead, the Tulsa-based company, which had 2013 revenue of $11.2 billion, is focusing on its employees and customers, he said.

Thornbrugh said the cost of the damage had not yet been assessed, but he expects the destruction of the convenience store’s structure and merchandise will likely total seven figures.

Employees who were working at the QuikTrip Sunday night made it out safely before the store was looted and burned in the chaos that followed a peaceful vigil for Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old man who was shot dead by a police officer Saturday.

Thornbrugh said employees of the store are being offered counseling and, once they are comfortable, the opportunity to transfer to another store while the company decides whether to rebuild.

Quiktrip is leaving security of the site to the police for now. As Thornbrugh said, “With all due respect, there’s nothing left to protect.”

The Wal-Mart at 10741 W. Florissant Ave. was also damaged Sunday.

A Wal-Mart spokesman said a "significant amount of merchandise" was taken from the store, which opened at 2 p.m. Monday but will close at 6 p.m. rather than 11 p.m.

Wal-Mart officials will determine later the store's hours moving forward.

That was what journalists call a mostly peaceful demonstration.

Terrorists???

Terrorists have an agenda, something many of those Urban Ferals likely can’t have because of a below 82 I.Q..

Can we just refer to them as Urban Feral Trash?

They should not bother to rebuild. Take the insurance money and get out.

I wonder if they'll even be able to get insurance to build in areas likely to experience looting and other mayham. Around here, stores to close to fragile neighborhoods have a prohibitive problem with theft.

There's one very good reason that we should want stores to succeed where their consumers live. When the inner city stores close, residents are forced to take long bus rides to get to inner ring suburbs to shop. Nobody benefits.

About eight years ago I got lost looking for the state fairgrounds and Cotton Bowl and took an unplanned tour of Oak Cliff. That was eye opening. I got out a 357 and stuck it under my leg where it was quickly available.

It was around 10 AM and we couldn’t believe all the fine gents strolling around with paper sacks. Or in some cases laying on the sidewalks. No doubt they were just taking breaks from their jobs.

President Obama cares more for the looters and thugs than he does for the innocent Christian children being slaughtered.

The policy might exclude losses from war, insurrection, riot, etc.

The big chains probably self-insure. It will be written off.

So sickening and disgusting, the entitled slime of the earth. Hopefully QT will leave them to their deserved abyss of scumbag convenience stores and Walmart and other major retailer should leave them with nothing but a Goodwill store.

I would imagine they have fire insurance at least, that’s what I was thinking about. If the store is actually burned down. You probably can’t really buy “theft” insurance, it’s just too common and looting is just theft on a grand scale.

So in other words the police dereliction of duty is because they are scared of what MIGHT happen happen to them. Never mind the law and their oaths.

Wow so the police think it’s a great strategy to run, hide and just let the looters run wild and destroy a community?

S.M.H...

Absolutely right!

Walmart should close to. If nothing else, Walmart would send a huge message to the so called black “community”.

Further grounds is the safety of their employees!

Want your daughter working in that Walmart store when these ferrals come storming in???

I think your remembering “Force Majeure”.

That clause is in most insurance policies on commercial buildings. On a few occasions, I have negotiated it out.

“Force Majeure” seeks to protect both parties in case of “acts of god” or
“overwhelming force” (like a riot) and so on.

In this case, it is my opinion that this insurance company would not risk losing the business of this big company and would pay up immediately.
