Army vets blast PC police for attacking Apache, Chinook helicopters as racist

Veterans arent happy with a recent op-ed by the Washington Post, which charged that the Apache, Comanche, Chinook, Lakota, Cheyenne and Kiowa military vehicles were a greater symbolic injustice than the NFLs Washington Redskins name. Even if the NFL and Redskins brass come to their senses and rename the team, a greater symbolic injustice would continue to afflict Indians an injustice perpetuated not by a football club but by our federal government, Simon Waxman of the Boston Review wrote for the Post on Thursday.
He added that the helicopter names were propaganda that needed to end, because Native American life expectancy statistics indicate the violence is ongoing, even if the guns are silent. Readers at the popular military news gathering website Doctrine Man reacted Friday. I suspect that the author is less unhappy that our choppers have Indian names, and more unhappy that there is a U.S. military, wrote Alex Kuhns. Kevin Schooler wrote: What floors me is that for the most part, it isnt American Indians who are offended. It is guilt-ridden white liberals being offended on their behalf. Hows that for paternalism?

Therefore, so is North DAKOTA, and South DAKOTA, and OHIO, and Kansas and Arkansas, and probably 25% of city and town and state names in the entire nation.

They may - repeat may - have a beef with the term "Peaux Rouges."
I'm at a loss to understand how the term "Apache" is in any way a term of disparagement. Also, other names, such as "War Eagles," "Marauders" and others not to my way of thinking "belonging" to or descriptive of the Red Man are under attack. Why are they so sensitive? Are they closet Muslims? Thou shalt not make any image of the Prophet Muhammad - or use any name associated with the indigenous peoples who occupied this continent before the arrival of those evil Europeans?
We name ships, flying machines and motorcycles, among other things, after people or concepts we respect. It is of some import, I think, that this PC censorship is cranking up exponentially under the administration of the guy who was supposed to be our first "post racial" president. Sadly for our Nation, he's just another race-baiter like Sharpton or Farrakhan.
More importantly, we as Americans stand for Free Speech - speech that is circumscribed only under extremely limited circumstances. Our forefathers fought for and secured it to us and I will not countenance it being shouted away by a pack of slavering Bolsheviks!
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

We need to go after Waxman first, because his name is offensive to car wax, floor wax, surfboard wax and candle wax, not to speak of bikini wax. Second the last part of his name is “man” which should immediately be offensive to any real man, girlie man, wo(man), he-man, hey man, man caves, man-nipulators, and on and on and on.
Why don’t we just turn this PC crap around and shove it back in the face of those that are pushing it? It has gotten so ludicrous, it’s hard no to laugh at how far these people stretch credibility to try and justify their prejudices.
My favorite response to the political correctness junkies, is that it doesn’t apply to me because I am not in politics. Go harass your own kind.

I went thro this crap with some bubble headed college girl who tried to scold me for one of my Indian Motorcycle shirts.I agree with Norm in post 11. Now that you tried to do the right thing, and use reason and logic, next time, just ask her if she knows where the sun don't shine?

Too bad the A-10 is going to be retired. The term Hog Driver would be celebrated. It's not. It was saved.

Let me temper my last post with: it has a better chance of being saved, now. It’s future is more certain than it was.

Well then, let me be the first to welcome you into our tribe! Your official tribe name is “Mighty Warrior Of The Glistening Glade Who Flew In The Rusty Sky Bird And Who Runs Like The Deer And Has The Courage Of The Mountain Lion And The Wisdom Of The Muskrat” or “Bud”, for short.
As a tribal member, you’re entitled to a 25% discount on insurance from AARP (Association of American Rum Drinkers). Yeah, I don’t know how you come up with a “P” for “Drinkers”, either. They tell me it’s a tribal secret.
Our tribe has a long and glorious history. We know this because the prisons keep such good records. Our tribal headdress is three chicken feathers and an extra crispy drumstick. We used to wear loincloths, but we were in Chicago one time and the wind kept blowing up our loincloths and all the women in Chicago started following us around.
And so I close with our tribe’s traditional farewell.

Outstanding, blueunicorn6! - you must be the Chief of your Tribe!
I belong to another Tribe - "The Warriors Who Fight Through The Rice Paddies, The Elephant Grass, And The Triple Canopy Rain Forest."
I am most grateful to you and your Tribe - one of your Warriors pulled me out of a hot LZ when I was hit in the Arizona many years ago.
God Bless you, Brother - thank you for your service to our Nation!

As a true Redskin, I am OFFENDED that they want to change the name of the team.
It has always been my understanding that one names their team for something they ADMIRE. Warriors, Tigers, Braves, etc, all indicate prowess and might.
Herewith are some unlikely names for teams that would never be chosen because they are things people DONT admire:
The Washington Whiners
The Boston Bed-Wetters
The Philadelphia Flops
The Atlanta Asses
The Texas Tax-Collectors
The Pittsburgh Pilferers
The Detroit Deadbeats
The LA Lapdogs
The Bangor Boot-Lickers
The San Francisco Snitches
The Milwaukee Milquetoasts
So, ergo, redskins are GOOD, otherwise why would anyone name a team after them?
As for the helicopters, I LOVE those names! I am just OFFENDED that they have never named one after MY Tribe, the Mic Miac. Since I am also part Irish, and a gun-toting right wing wacko, we could call the next helicopter Gunship the “Mic Mac Paddy Whack” in MY honor!
Oh yes...

Hope you’re right.
Why on Earth we’d consider getting rid of these is beyond me.
