Two national chain restaurants have asked that customers refrain from bringing firearms into their establishments, saying the weapons can create an uncomfortable atmosphere for other diners.
Sonic Drive-In and Chili's Grill & Bar both issued statements Friday requesting that customers keep their guns out of their restaurants even if they have an open carry permit.
The request, which stops short of an outright ban, came after members of the gun-rights group Open Carry Texas walked into Texas outlets of Sonic and Chili's carrying assault rifles.
Dallas-based Brinker International, which owns the Chili's chain, said in a statement it was dedicated to providing "a safe environment for our guests and team members."
"We recognize that the open carry of firearms creates an uncomfortable atmosphere and is not permitted under many local liquor laws," spokeswoman Ashley Johnson said....

Someone did something at Sonic to make them issue the statement though I agree with your statement.
For people on foot or wish to park their car off-property, some Sonics have an order-radio in front, perhaps a table too. This is about the only place I would see such an interaction. Doesn’t make much sense if it were people who had guns in their cars.
In Indiana, unless that policy is clearly stated on the doorway, they can pound sand. Which would be an improvement to their food.
Wow
What do you consider to be an assault rifle?
i called the local chili’s and talked to the manager. she said they have no problem with concealed carry, in fact she welcomed it, but the restaurant is also looking out for those patrons who are afraid of guns, so they ask not to open carry. we don’t like it, we feel it’s unconstitutional, but they have a right to make that decision and take the consequences.
There’s a factory in our small town that makes that pre-prepared stuff. Soups and entrees and sauces. Catch the wind just right, and the whole town smells like lasagna or beef stew, depending on the day of the week
Pretty much the bottom of the line for employees paying just a little more than minimum wage.
How did that work for the Baker, with a HOMO “wedding” cake?
Similar in Texas, the two types of signs I see are
1) the (paraphrased ) “if you don’t have a permit don’t bring it in here, per section 30.06” (yes, there IS a section 30.06 :D )
2) the (paraphrased) “even if you DO have a permit, don’t bring it in here” most often seen in court houses, federal establishments, etc where it isn’t allowed anyway.
Ask them...
Everything I've read on this board and others about carrying suggests to do so in a manner that doesn't draw undue attention to yourself.
I find it humorous that the people that want to carry long rifles into restaurants, because they believe they have that right, apparently care nothing about the rights of the restaurant owners.
If you walk into a restaurant with a long gun, I strongly advise you to not make any sudden moves, because I’ll have spotted you, and have my hand on my concealed carry. No way to tell that you’re not a troublemaker.
An “assault rifle” is one with a full length stock where the foregrip can be held like a baseball bat and the rifle can be used as a club.
My great grandad grew up near three bakeries in Brooklyn. Silvercup, Hostess, and Wonderbread ... then down the street there was Ronzoni pasta factory. He says that like every three days or so when they’re all baking was like heaven.
I take my gun everywhere.
At a buck a lime these days, that Lime Rickey drink cost is going up. My wife’s favorite drink from Sonic is Coke Zero with lime added. This weekend, the added lime was 30 cents extra and it used to be free. It’s also not nearly as much lime as previously.
Back on topic - agree that Sonic making this statement is nonsense since the normal interaction there doesn’t even require leaving your vehicle. I’d further note that Sonic is based in Oklahoma City, definitely not an anti-gun hotbed.
You didn’t put those words in quotes. You use those words on your own. Now you fall back to pointing fingers at Reuters when you’re called on it.
Sonic has begun to build some facilities with indoor seating. Google images shows a few
I conceal carry WHERE I go here in Arizona. Sign or no stupid sign. What are they going to do ... frisk me. Screw these idiots
