With “The Case for Reparations,” Ta-Nehisi Coates of the Atlantic sets slavery aside to focus on the long plunder of the 20th century, in which whites used coercion, violence, and government to exclude blacks from the bounty of American prosperity. The civil rights revolution of the 1960s was vital, but it wasn’t a panacea, and the problems of today—from the racial wealth gap to the crumbling ghettos of the Midwest—stem from the racist policies of our recent past. Or, as Coates puts it, “White supremacy is … a force so fundamental to America that it is difficult to imagine the country without it.”
This is more than rhetoric. Black families paid taxes and black soldiers fought for democracy in Europe and the Pacific, but—from low-interest home loans to money for education—they were barred from the benefits of the G.I. Bill. Indeed, the same federal dollars that built the suburbs were used to keep blacks out of them. It was the federal government that “pioneered the practice of redlining,” writes Coates, “selectively granting loans and insisting that any property it insured be covered by a restrictive covenant—a clause in the deed forbidding the sale of the property to anyone other than whites. Millions of dollars flowed from tax coffers into segregated white neighborhoods.” At the same time, “legislatures, mayors, civic associations, banks, and citizens all colluded to pin black people into ghettos, where they were overcrowded, overcharged, and undereducated.”(continued)

Not owed. None of this generation are slaves, except those that have yoked themselves to the neo-slavery welfare state plantation; let them seek “reparation” from the leftist Dems, that is, if they can break the chains they willingly put on themselves.
Two rubs to this.
1) Once reparations were theoretically paid, here would be no obligation to support them after the wad was blown through in six months.
2) If you are paying for past grievances, we can go back a 100,000 years to tribal conflicts. There is no end.
How many trillions of dollars has been given to blacks since 1965?
I agree they owe reparations to the whites who fought and died for their freedom in America’s bloodiest war.
And who have spent trillions on them while they took drugs screwed around and squandered every opportunity.
If we are going to talk racial stereotypes then let’s cut the lies.
Pity party contests can get so INTERESTING can’t they.
Anything short of that is to spit on the grave of the hundreds of thousands of white soldiers who died freeing the slaves.
If the blood sacrifice of strangers - of another race - doesn't wipe out all debts, then I say hand them a few bucks and say good-bye.
And good riddance to bad rubbish.

I suggest the Democrats go for it. Put on the full court press. Put actual legislation on the table. Make sure the reparations are funded by an immediate expropriation of property from every white person in America — no borrowing from China or printing money. What is the right amount. Take 20% to 30% of the net worth of every white American of every age, no exception. They must feel pain in order to acknowledge and atone for the sins of their race.
Let’s have a real national debate on the topic. Then put it to a vote in Congress and see what happens, whether it passes or not.
I will find it exceedingly difficult to ever respect anyone accepting these “reparations”. I judge people by their character.

Nothing is owed
The costs of slavery have far exceeded any "benefit" of slavery.
If, and it's a huge if, we ever want to have some degree of assimilation in this country, the reparations talk has got to cease.
The longer this idiotic idea hangs around, the longer it will take for individual blacks to escape the chains of their own diseased culture and find out there is nothing holding them back save their own expectations.
