Rand Paul urges Harry Reid to ‘calm the rhetoric’ on Cliven Bundy

Republican Senator Rand Paul called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to “calm the rhetoric” on Cliven Bundy, arguing the Nevada senator’s “domestic terrorist” comment was “liable to stir up” the situation and lead to violence.

The Kentucky senator spoke Thursday night with Fox News’ Eric Bolling, who was filling in for Sean Hannity. “Is there any need to call Americans domestic terrorists?” Bolling asked.“No, I think what we should all be calling for is for calmer heads to prevail,” Paul said. “I don’t want to see violence on either side.”

“There is a legitimate constitutional question here about whether the state should be in charge of endangered species or whether the federal government should be,” Paul admitted. “But I don’t think calling people names is going to calm this down.

I really wish people would take notice of the spectacle of one of the most powerful men in the federal government spending much of his time (paid for by us) going after private citizens. First it was the Koch Brothers, now its Cliven Bundy. As far as I know, neither the Koch Brothers nor Cliven Bundy hold any elective office, they hold no appointed office, they are not employees of the federal government, they have no formal political power beyond that of any other citizen. Yet Reid seems driven to destroy them. Very Alinsky-esque tactics, if you ask me. I would think with all the other more important issues facing the country, Reid would have bigger fish to fry. Evidently not.

“Meanwhile, Cruz was out laying the wood to Obama over the “debate is over” statement”

I hope you are joking. Cruz’s response to Obama was a one line tweet to his supporters a few days ago.

Rand Paul has been on national television attacking Reid. Where is Cruz? His pro Bundy tweet is overdue.

Reid has no intention of having things calm down. In fact, he will be liable and responsible for inciting violence! Which given his public position is prosecutable under the law.

That one tweet was only one part of a long in his face narrative of Cruz versus Obama Care. And it was timed to reply to the President immediately after the debate is over comment. And for you to assume that’s his only attack on Obama is just absurd.

And it doesnt change the fact, Pauls comments were weak, tepid, whitewashed, and sounded like Obama begging Putin to “calm” etc. Paul also was telling the Bundy side to calm down too, which is pathetic. Get over your man crush, this was a disappinting response, but of course, on the way to meet with Mitt fund raisers….what should we expect????

Well you are right that Cruz needs to get on this ASAP because it will become one of the defining issues of the coming election WHEN it blows up.

On the other hand you are also championing an idiot whose Cheshire conservatism only seems to pop into existence when it suits him. His less than stellar handling of the entire Amnesty issue and open support for the man who hates, threatens and works against conservatives more than any other, should clue pretty much everyone who understands the word ‘integrity’ in to where his actual loyalty lies. And it ain’t with us.

Dang Norm….I agree with all of that. I agree with you that Cruz needs to join the Bundy issue and quick…..and I agree that Rand is an intellectual mess, or just a totally cynical opportunist….or both.

I would say to our friend Barnacle that if Cruz ever makes such a girlish pathetic statement on national TV, I will be the first to criticize it. But as a Paul bot, self critique is just not in the cult playbook.

He’s like a character out of the first Godfather. Something Mario Puzo would make up.

It would hurt less to first try the nonviolent option in Article V.

I spent years dealing with the BLM and I can see what’s coming a mile away with this. Then when one considers that they have someone like Reid and this admin egging them on and giving them cover and authority, it is a recipe for complete disaster.

Cruz has to deal with this. He has to lead. He is unique in that he has shown no fear of Dems or GOP. Which makes me wonder what is going on here. I can only hope he’s getting his position solidified. We will see what happens. Hopefully the right thing.

As for Rand, the man has episode after episode of instructing Mr. Scott to fly the Starship out of the Conservative sector at warp 9. And as long as people on the right continue pretend he is something he’s not he is sucking up support that could better be used by someone who doesn’t kiss the ring of Mitch and the establishment.

The BLM issue is tailor made for Cruz - and not just related to Bundy - but to a few major questions:
Like WTF is the US Govt doing owning 80% of Nevada?
WTF does the gov own 1/8th of the entire country?
Why do they have their own army run by an unknown unelected unaccountable bureaucrat who was appointed by Dirty Harry Reid?
This is just the tip of a big ugly iceberg.

His support for who? I have no idea what you are ranting about.

Nobody is more consistant and predictable than Rand Paul. Is he too extreme for you? Well, there are plenty of middle of the road moderates out there to choose from:

On Immigration, Cruz Aims for Middle Ground

https://www.texastribune.org/2013/09/13/immigration-cruz-aims-middle-ground/

This crowd can issue ferocious tweets. It’s too bad that they are held hostage by interest groups.

One could spend years digging through the layers upon layers of corruption between the BLM, the Sierra Club (and other green democrat front groups) and the Democrat party itself.

The businesses destroyed or driven out of areas under its control, the landowners denied full use of their land, the land stripped under environmental laws that are bills of attainder by another name...it is endless.

I use the Off-road racing/recreation angle since that was my area in the 90s and early 00s. People wanting to see how far back this goes should read/search the name “Rick Sieman” and “Barstow to Vegas”. Now to be sure the BLM was at work screwing people before that, but as I say, this is the area I’m most familiar with.

Rick was my mentor in journalism and I got the inside story of the whole mess. And their tactics and intent have not changed in all these years...just that now they are more bold about them.

“His physical appearance, whiny voice, and corrupt business connections make him an easy target. “

I’ve got by far the most documentation on Reid corruption of anyone for my book “Harry”. If Republicans were smart (Bhahaha, bwahahaha) they would make him Pinata Boy. There is so much material, I am overwhelmed.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, all I’ll say is you need to either give a solid conservative argument for why Rand Paul backs a hard left conservative hating GOP fossil or explain why you support the man that does.

We must get past playing pussyfoot with people inside conservatism who intentionally cloud issues. Which you are doing. That’s a polite way of saying if you want to back people who fight conservative ideas and side with liberals, you will be treated as any other GOP plant or liberal.

If you were refering to Mitt Romney before, here is the problem that Cruz had with him (from the article I posted):

“Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.”

“I have said many times that I want to see common-sense immigration reform pass,” he said. “I think most Americans want to see the problem fixed.”

Rand Paul invented the self deportation plan that Romney stole. He came up with it during the campaign for the senate.

I find myself unable to support Cruz if he is not in favor of enforcing the law.

There is a lot of stuff out there on Rick and the B2V and subsequent protests. It got to a federal court case and Rick finally said to hell with it and left the country.
