A small sign of renewed American freedom has been noticed in Spokane, Washington. Jitterz Java was robbed twice in February of this year. On March 16th, an armed robber was run off by an armed employee. As noted in the above image, at least one barista believes in the deterrent effect of open carry.
The owner, Sara Chapel has taken steps to reduce her losses. From spokesman.com:
The recent string of violence has owner Sara Chapel fed up. The way Ive been scheduling the girls is that at least one girl who carries a gun is always on shift, she said. The women will carry their own personal handguns that theyve been trained to use.
Chapel has encouraged all of her employees to seek firearms training.
I knew I liked Spokane...
I strongly recommend that businesses encourage their employees to carry, as a tangible way for them to show their employees that they care about them. Granted, there are different “moods” for this, but there is always a reason.
To start with, businesses that deal in cash and valuables have long known the value of having armed employees, though truthfully, armed robbers are often so terribly stupid that they will try to rob a place with armed employees anyway.
The next most vulnerable are, of all places, discount and convenience stores. Again, it shows the stupidity of a lot of robbers that dollar stores are frequent targets of robbery.
Even businesses that are just administrative may have their employees robbed in the course of business or going to or coming home from work.
So many reasons, but unless you work around compressed gases or volatile liquids, or very strong magnetic fields, there needs to be a logical reason for employees to *not* be armed.
