Brokeback Mountain, The Opera,is having its premiere opening in Madrid, Spain. The author, Annie Proulx, said that the operatic version would "present an opportunity to explore the complexities of the tale in a way neither her own short story nor the movie by director Ang Lee were able to do." She also said that the opera would "open up the characters involved in the doomed love affair." Which, I imagine, will go a long way in helping the actors reach those high notes. Apologies aforehand for any coffee upchucked keyboards.
