Brokeback Mountain, The Opera,is having its premiere opening in Madrid, Spain. The author, Annie Proulx, said that the operatic version would "present an opportunity to explore the complexities of the tale in a way neither her own short story nor the movie by director Ang Lee were able to do." She also said that the opera would "open up the characters involved in the doomed love affair." Which, I imagine, will go a long way in helping the actors reach those high notes. Apologies aforehand for any coffee upchucked keyboards.

They will play in hell to harm the souls.
should read:
".....an opportunity to explore the complexities of the tail..."
Somehow I picture “What’s Opera Doc” where Viking Elmer Fudd is singing a duet with Bugs Bunny Brunhilde.
I don’t think I can top that reply.
Wait a minute! Wait a minute! They’re going to have an opera without a soprano in a lead role? Women arise! Shun this perverted act against women.
We’ve got a large and all-too-prominent segment in society who seem to have been “given over to a reprobate mind” (see Romans 1). As nauseating as they are, I pity them for they are as good as dead already.

Not bad. I’m kind of picturing Bugs Bunny Brunhilde meets Jessica from Roger Rabbit.
I think we can rest assured that at the defining moment a note in the soprano range will be heard loud and clear.
Gee, somehow I missed Brokeback when it was in theaters, and never saw it on DVD either. Can someone fill me in on what I missed?
Nah. Too easy.
“Nah. Too easy.”
Yeah, you’re right. Once I read that sentence from the author I had to Freep post it. Not to mention the operatic high notes. I, for one, wouldn’t wear glasses to the event.
you people are missing the golden nugget in this story. Next up, we will most likely have the South Park version of this opera.
So who does Lindsey Graham play?
Gee thanks Joe. You got one of Gomer Pyle too ?
The best criticism of the movie Brokeback Mountain is finding huge numbers of the DVD quietly remaindered in discount stores. Even at $3, they sit there, gathering dust, besides such fare as An Inconvenient Truth, Jimmy Carter Man From Plains, and (Shirley) Chisholm ‘72: Unbought & Unbossed.
The final insult is when such movies are bundled together in plastic wrap with two other such stinkers, then sold for $1.
Yeah ... with a title like, "B.M. at the Opera"
