Earlier in the day, Boehner reiterated what hes said before on immigration reform: I'll make clear we have no intention ever of going to conference on the Senate bill."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) chided Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) for his refusal to negotiate with the Senate on immigration reform.
I'm stunned, Reid said in an interview Wednesday with Fusion, a joint venture by ABC News and Univision. How could anybody in good conscience tell one group he's trying to do immigration reform, and a few minutes later, say 'I'm not going to do anything about a conference?' "
Earlier in the day, Boehner reiterated what hes said before on immigration reform: I'll make clear we have no intention ever of going to conference on the Senate bill."
His comments confirmed the House will not take up the issue this year, which President Obama and Democrats have pressed for. Last week, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also ruled it out for 2013, arguing there are too few legislative days remaining in this session.
"This is about trying to do this in a way that the American people and our members can absorb," Boehner said, arguing the immigration system is too complex to address quickly.
In the morning, a group of teenagers approached Boehner at a Capitol Hill diner and questioned why the Speaker wouldnt act on immigration. Their family members, they said, have previously faced deportation.
Im trying to find a way to get this thing done. Its, as you know, not easy. Its not going to be an easy path forward, but Ive made it clear since the day after the election that its time to get this done, Boehner said. A video of the exchange was recorded.
Reid accused Boehner of sending mixed signals, Fusion reports.
"I mean, this House of Representatives might just as well not exist, he said. They don't do anything.
The Senate passed the Gang of Eight legislation in June, but Boehner has since rejected that measures reforms.
Reid said hes open to negotiating with Boehner if the House passes piece-meal legislation addressing immigration-related issues individually.
"I don't like it, he said. But if they pass something, we can at least go to conference.
I bet this is just cover for the GOPe so they can go home during the recess and they'll all bend over and take it like the RATS they are, after the new session begins?
More like stunned.
No immigration reform until all illegals are deported and the fence is built. It is the law of the land after all.
Therein lies the problem. The Dims and the DIABNs (Dims in all but name) will pass the Senate version via conference.
All Boner has to do is to state that Dingy’s Bill is a rat’s next of provisions not unlike that of the 2,000 page 0DontCare Bill and likely to have similar bad outcomes for Americans and America.
I am stunned that Reid is stunned after what they said during the shutdown.
Stunned that Boehner finally realized that “negotiation” in Reid’s mind means “complete capitulation to Dear Leader.”
Sen. Reid has a severe case of CRS on his own actions and the gall to play Captain Renault of the Senate. Paybacks are a Biaotch.
And that is a much easier argument to make now. How can Americans believe Obama or the Dems - or what they say about Republicans? Trust has been shattered. Lies have surfaced.
HR: “Who is this strange man, and what did you do with my esteemed colleague, John Boehner ??”
When was the last time you submitted a budget, Harry?
ESAD, Dingy!
They both play for the same team, they just like to hand the gavel back and forth ever few years all the while working on self preservation.
:)
It looks like those Conservative “cooties” have infected the House.
we’ve ben saying all along....fix the broken system
This is all for show, boehner is tighter with dingy harry and the imposter than he is with anyone rejecting amnesty. Things are just too ugly for the regime right now so boehner has to pretend conservative for a couple of days.
“Reid said hes open to negotiating with Boehner if the House passes piece-meal legislation addressing immigration-related issues individually.”
Okay, cool. Pass a bill to close the borders immediately and secure them with enough guards to make a difference, then pass a bill to compel the INS to start deporting people.
Those are “immigration-related issues”, so tell Reid we’ll get to the rest of the issues on his list after we see how he handles that legislation.
The sheeple out here are already enraged over this health care fiasco and now they want to push this immigration??
more like stuned
with a beeber
does Boehner have a beeber?
