People in Japan are so averse to romantic relationships that the country's media even has a name for it: sekkusu shinai shokogun, or "celibacy syndrome," according to a widely circulated Guardian story on the country's low rates of marriage, childbearing and even sex.

No, any place where kiddie porn is LEGAL and society makes kids think prostitution is just another fine way to earn “pocket money”, is not much improvement. I think a nuke would be a vast improvement for both cities.
Ah! Yes, how COULD I forget? I stand corrected.
Japan will last longer than all of us, exactly because they are focused on what makes them and their country “Japanese.” its their culture, their history, and their language. Yes, they do take interesting or useful things from the outside world, but use them in their own way.
They have no interest in immigrants from Africa, Yemen, Burma or where ever. Japanese understand those people will not fit into Japan society anyway - and would only work at unskilled, relatively unproductive jobs, and become a permanent underclass anyway - so what’s the point?
Not every country is the USA, and not everyone shares of present day “religion” of low-cost labor, the economic value of the individual, and so-called “diversity.” Why force it on them?
they will definitely continue to undergo a slow-moving economic revolution and population decline - but eventually, something will shock them into changing it. They will not riot in the streets though and as a people, they will always exist as is.
Soy is said to diminish testosterone production.
HOWEVER, I gotta hand it to the Japanese. They bathe. The Japanese bath is more than just a daily shower, scrub and hop in the tub; it's a ritual. Now, to me, that's not a bad thing. It teaches the kids to be clean, to be communal in their cleanliness and not to be so ashamed or shy about their body.
I don’t think this is the only significant problem causing Japan’s economic decline. After Japan’s big economic boom, two social groups started to rise: the NEETs(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEET) and the Freeters(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeter). This was the blow back of such an intense and over demanding work environment. As a result, their economy has started to decay.
With these significant problems and almost no immigration, I don’t see how they will recover.
She did not have anything nice to say about Japanese men.
Well, the Allies tried that on two cities.
Maybe a nuke isn't necessary. Outlawing kiddie porn and prostitution, with HUGE financial penalties, might take the commerce so far underground that it would all but disappear. The Japanese men could just do what we do...eat and drink themselves into oblivion.
Now QUIT sugar-coatin' it and say what you REALLY mean. :o)
Now that is a shame. That would, I assume, even include her father, brothers and all other male relatives. Damn shame.
I dunno, I grew up watching Japanese TV and come to think of it, I never saw a samurai abuse his wife, although a lot of them were good at ignoring them.
All I know is you don’t want to get a samurai woman angry enough to the point she would take revenge. When you see her in the white (death) kimono, with the sleeves tied up and the headband on, holding a katana, you know you can kiss it goodbye. O-ren in the fight scene in Kill Bill is a pretty good modern adaptation of that.
Hmmm, a ticked-off samuai wife...not someone you would cross...that is, without a big old honker magnum 44 in your hand. You would get hurt, but, then, so would she. No win for all. Let's just leave Mrs. Ticked-off Wife alone! :o)
“Haven’t the Japanese learned that a plumber is PROBABLY one of the most IMPORTANT men in the world?! “
I like to point out to people that our entire civilization would not have been possible/would collapse within days into a nightmare without plumbing, plumbers, and public sanitation. So, who is really more important? The geek or the sanitation engineer?
Its the inevitable result of feminism.
Abusing a gift from the boss tends to be impolitic to say the least.
Warriors married daughters of warriors. You learn what you see and they saw daddy treat mom with politeness. Part of this was because even the girls were trained with weapons and part of this was because while the men were away the wife was in charge.
Warriors tend to be away a great deal. Not wise to abuse the lady who was in charge of your home and lands 75% of the time.
And of course there is, as your husband observed and as my dad taught me, the little fact that everyone has to sleep sometime.
Something I am very aware of, since I am married to a Japanese woman. :)
Concur that there is a level of “subservience” still in the culture; however, since the 80’s that has changed rapidly.
My wife is Japanese - and therefore so are both of my sister-in-laws. A lot of what people are saying on this thread is so hyperbolic as to be satirical. The whole - take it beating thing is no more prevalent then in the US... actually likely less so due to the potential loss of “face”.
Are there wife beaters in Japan? Yes - there are in the US also and both get prosecuted.
Are there married cheaters in Japan - Yes and the wifes there ignore it a bit more then in the US, but that has changed with changes in the divorce laws over the years. Divorce is still seen as a potential face loser though in many cases - again losing face is changing over time as well. They’ve lost some cultural inhibitions just like we have.
The lack of children is occurring in all 1st world “more affluent” countries not just Japan. It comes from a desire to provide as much as possible and to give as much opportunity as possible to educate and prepare their kids for the future - which means limiting the number of kids....that and people being spoiled to the point they don’t want to take care of kids. It’s misguided but present in most advanced economies. (I come from a family of 5 and wished my wife could have had more than what we did, but...life suprises you sometimes in different ways then expected).
You noted that children are more prevalent in the country - I’d argue that this is true in the US also, with exception of the ghettos where they don’t really take care of them anyway, but pawn them off on whoever will look after them.
I worry about my Japanese niece/nephews.... I also worry about my US niece/nephews. Mostly though I keep the two shotguns clean for my two daughters. ;)
Don’t agree 100% here - it’s no different then what we have done stateside. Even now I see a lot of Japanese shows that don’t degrade those positions, but promote them as just as honorable as a salaryman position. No one in the US or Japan without a job is likely to do well with the ladies long term. The tradesmen in Japan do just as well as those in the US.
Still plenty of demand for them as there are stateside, but improvements in tech have been made even in these trades. Stateside for example you don’t see a lot of brazed copper piping in plumbing like you used to - instead it is braided plastic tubing with couplings. This makes the job more efficient and less costly.
By the way more women are making inroads into trades in Japan now - just as they did to a degree in the US. There is bias, but it has happened. The major difference i see is that in Japan women are more likely to be stay at home moms then in the US. A plus in my view.
I like Japan and Japanese people, generally.. Theirs is a first-world country surrounded by third-world countries.
Japan is crowded compared to the USA. Plus they import all their oil, and recently abandoned nuclear power.
I think it must be a fact that dense inner cities have lower birth rates than populations with more living space. It’s certainly true here in the USA. Inner city people have more liberal attitudes toward child-raising and family planning, too. Like those selfish women on Sex In The City, they view children as a crimp on their lifestyles, so they abort them, without remorse. They become aging, barren careerists instead of grandmothers. Their politics is Left, so they look at not procreating as an act of civility, since there are fewer diapers in landfills and there’s less CO2 in the atmosphere. They are consummate narcissists.
Ideally, in this perverse view of humanity, we must make most land off limits to humans, discourage private transportation, and concentrate humans in high-rises located along lines of communication. The U.N. calls it Agenda 21.
sounds like you stay in the financial district, walled off from the scum of the city
which means you’re blissfully unaware of the goings on over at the folsom street fair ... activities the left wants to inflict on the rest of us
