DC Incomes Rise While Private Sector Average Declines
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 20 Sep 2013 | John Semmens

The latest report from the US Census shows that median household incomes in America have declined by over 6% since the year 2000. In contrast, incomes for Washington, DC households have climbed by more than 23% over this same time span.

Jason Furman, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, hailed the report as “clear evidence that the Administration’s efforts to boost the economy are working. We have provided a pathway for those seeking to improve their lives. Joining the federal workforce or working for employers who are engaged intimately with the federal government—either as lobbyists for various programs or as beneficiaries of government spending on infrastructure, social, or environmental programs—is an escalator to upward mobility for those with appropriately progressive values.”

Warren Buffet, one whose appropriately progressive values have enabled him to prosper mightily (he is among the top ten richest men in the world) warned that “GOP threats to reject raising the debt ceiling are dumb. Access to ever increasing amounts of borrowed money is crucial to ensuring the flow of funds into the proper hands. If the government is put on reduced rations it will cut into the fat that even these GOP Congressman rely on to buy votes on election day. They’d be goring their own ox.”

The government has grown about 1000% bigger than needed and this is another sign of the government bloating to a size where it doesn’t work for the people anymore.

We need to shut this gargantuan monster government down for at least a year, during which entire agencies that do absolutely nothing for taxpayers should be axed. The Departments of Energy, Education, Interior, Commerce, Agriculture, Veterans, the EPA and Indian Affairs, would be an excellent way to start

I have taken to calling DC "District One" when talking politics with young people, and they immediately know what I'm talking about.

From the movie the Hunger Games, District One is the capitol of post-apocalyptic America. The ruling class of District One are out of touch, overbearing, prone to extremes in fashion, dismissive of anyone not in the district. Evil, underhanded, their whole lives revolve around power and the money that comes with it. They suppress the other districts via taxation and tyrannical edicts. Their favorite sport pits members of the other districts against one another in battles to the death.

Sound familiar?

I know it’s satire, but only mildly.

Walking around D.C. these days is dizzying. All the expensive buildings, cars, high prices, outrageous prices for homes in the leafy suburbs...and no industry.

Then you get it....this is where the money goes. So the new Aristocracy can pocket it, then raise taxes yet again and bump up their own salaries. Wouldn’t want people in the government to be underpaid, would we?

We are right back where we started: serfs sending their hard earned labor to the Overlord class.

I keep saying this. We need to reduce both government employee and regular welfare.

Used to have 1-100 working for government and now it's like 1-9. That means we need to fire 90% of government workers to be real.

Welfare should be temporary and not a lifestyle. Those not residents or citizens (even with a citizen anchor baby) should be removed from the roles and the country.
Those residents not showing they are 125% over poverty half the time also need to leave if they are on social programs.
Multigenerational welfare.. GONE

When I visited DC, it was like flyover country USED to look.
You didn’t see “for lease” and “available” on 50% of the commercial buildings.
The DC beltway area is the place to be, I’ve counseled several young folks to head there.
