(SOUTHFIELD, MI, 9/9/13) -- The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today welcomed the Crestwood School District implementing halal meals to accommodate its Muslim students.
The Crestwood School District, which compromises schools in the City of Dearborn Heights, has a significant and growing Muslim student population.
CAIR-MI worked with the district and concerned parents for the implementation of halal meals, which includes halal meats.
"We welcome the implementation of halal meals at all Crestwood schools," said CAIR-MI Safe Spaces Coordinator Warda Kalim. "We hope that other school districts in Southeast Michigan provide similar accommodations to serve our area's growing Muslim population."
Kalim said that CAIR-MI has recently worked with other institutions in varying areas of the state to provide halal meals.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

So now school meals for muslims fall under justice and mutual understanding and protects civil liberties, empowers American Muslims.I never thought I'd live to see the day where school meals that can be either permitted / lawful or non-permited and unlawful..Why don't they make them eat what everyone else must eat or better yet pack a lunch.. Be thankful they have food to eat..
I havent looked up the location of the school district but Im betting its no more than a stones throw....away from Dearbornistan.
Slip them some pork...
count me IN.
My home state.
Where is the ACLU on this one? A religious organization works with a school district to have food which is prepared according to some religious doctrine? Would this be permitted for Christian or Jewish food guidelines????
CAIR is full of crap as usual. While there are a lot of muslims in that area, they’re a shrinking percentage of the population with middle eastern Christians outnumbering them by a wide and growing margin.
They should totally include sharia dress codes as part of their school rules...
Maybe they should stop teaching the female children because they should not be learning anything according to the Mo’ham’lester
You want to be added to the pinglist?
Unbelievable! You come to this country and DEMAND that we meet YOUR “cultural needs.”
Really, if I went to a Muslim country and demanded “justice” and “fairness” for myself and my children how soon before I and the rest of my family got a bullet in the back of the head?
WTF is wrong with this country?? (I know, moot point and rhetorical question and all that...)
For once I say bravo for CAIR! There was nobody in my corner when I complained about being forced to eat crappy chop suey and goulash every frickin week when I was a kid........
Do they offer Kosher food too, or are they Islamist Supremacists?
Are there many (any) Jewish students? I know of a few public schools in my area with large Jewish populations that do, in fact, offer Kosher food.
"Compromises schools"? Freudian slip or a true statement?
Here’s a hint: if you want a religiously-acceptable menu in a PUBLIC school. . . . brown-bag it. . .
It’s actually in Dearborn Heights, which sucks because Dearborn Hgts. is west of Dearborn. Dearbornistan is actually EAST Dearborn. The tentacles are spreading.
So you didn’t make it to the second sentence in the article?
First, let me say I don’t have a problem with this. I think if schools are going to serve food then they should provide the food that is appropriate for their students.
Having said that, I’m Catholic and I remember brown-bagging because my school didn’t provide meat-free options on Fridays. I live in a largely Catholic area so it certainly would have been a good choice for a large number of the students. Maybe someone from a Jewish area can say what their experience was.
Reading anything about mooselims makes me a bit tipsy....
Yes, please.
