Lest We Forget: Barbara K. Olson (bko) and John Moran (BCM)
Sept. 11, 2001.
one man's opinion...
Posted on 09/11/2013 7:06:32 AM PDT by ken5050
We all have our memories, and thoughts, of 9/11. It's another anniversary, and yes, the 12th isn't somehow as memorable as the 10th, or the 15th. On 9/11, FR lost two wonderful people, Barbara K. Olson, and John Moran. While the date, and those events, fades into history, as do all seminal events, it's important that we never forget the people involved. Free Republic is many things... but above all it is a community of those who cherish and hold dear a set of core beliefs, values, and principles.
And it is thus right and proper that we remember and honor "our own" who lost their lives on that fateful day 12 years ago.

And I am so glad that in the spirit of remembrance for an amazing woman you felt compelled to add that.
May I suggest that you report yourself to the Admin Moderator..hit "Abuse" on your own comment...and ask them to delete it..I could do it, but thought I'd give you the opportunity...

I watched C-Span shortly before 9/11/01, and Mrs Olson was the guest. A caller was VERY nasty to her. It stunned me how ugly it was.

I agree we Freepers should avoid insulting those on the Memorial Wall. This is a very positive attribute to the Free Republic website. I even thought about that a week ago. Nobody is perfect and whenever I die, it would be unfortunate if my Freeper obituary thread turns into a series of comments that begin with TexGrill is a sleazy ...

I miss Barbara. We had a mildly flirtatious relationship in FR ... all in fun, of course, since A) I do not mess with married women, and B) I would never have measured up against Ted Olson.... but it was fun and it was one of the initial factors that made me cultivate my fake "horn dawg" mask for Free Republic's amusement.
So -- especially because her death was a personal blow to me -- I bow my head in remembrance of this stalwart, intelligent, and wonderful woman.

Thank you so much for this! I remember her posting when my daughter and I were on FR regularly and she was a wonderful person! I also remember John Moran’s posts and what a great patriot he was. This day still makes me cry with sadness for the families that lost so many wonderful people; and cry with anger at these less-than-animals that caused all of this destruction and heartache. I will NEVER forget!

I DID read it again....and it still moves me. I urge all freepers to hit the link to read Ken's account on this day of remembrance.

Side-note: Some possible fallout from Sept. 11, 2001, was the later loss of Herb Meadows - aka freeper "CHIEF negotiator" - who
died in a fire early in the morning of Oct. 4th (mysterious it was), barely a couple hours after his last of many patriotic posts to FreeRepublic.com.
"CHIEF negotiator" had been all wound up and ready to go, to fight the Axis of Terrorism aka "Islamic Jihad."
He was a former U.S. Marine. He'd apparently tried to offer his Force Recon experience, but he could not get a YES from the Corps.
