Not to worry, it’s not likely that it would kill you barring unexpected and rare complication. But it may make you wish you were dead if you would be so unfortunate as to get one of the more painful cases.
Pain aside (and THAT is reason enough to get vaccine!) the illness can and does sometimes cause blindness. Patients become reclusive if Shingles spreads to face. Visualize the worst case of acne you've ever saw, times ten!

Wow. I did it for cash several years ago. Of course, last year the cash price on my prescriptions averaged $80/month. This year, because, I’m told, of Obamacare, it’s $230/each.
I’m in a prayer group with ladies who are mostly in their 60s and 70s. Several have had shingles, and all of them attest that it’s very painful.
My mother had it on her back, but you can get it on your face & near your eyes which can case real trouble.
I’ve known three people that had shingles, including my younger brother and my mother. I had chicken pox when a child, then in my late 30s I got (of all things) German measles. Still don’t know where they came from. I wonder if that makes me a bigger target for shingles? I’m still debating about getting the vaccine.
No chance taking here...Last Fall we did an entire ripe off and put down a pretty classy metal roof....Snow just slides right off!

The pneumonia shot is covered under Medicare, for those who are on Medicare.
I pay the Medicare premium every month, so YOU didn’t have to pay for the shot, I did.
If I ever get it I am going to strip nekkid and spray my body down with a complete bottle of lysol...

I just had it last December, took me 6 weeks to recover (2 of which were figuring out what the heck I had).
The problem with the vaccine, is if you are under 60 you need a doctor’s prescription to get it. I’m just over 40. The CDC doesn’t really want to give to people younger than 60, basically due to the effectiveness of the shot.
The problem, is that once you’ve recovered from the boil-like blisters, pain, and itching... there is phantom neuropathy (sp?) that is residual in the affected areas. I’m going for a doctor’s visit in the AM to see if I can get the shot, because that helps eliminate the pain.
Chicken Pox, who knew that all those chicken pox play dates so many years ago, would come back to all of us with a vengeance?

Personally, I’ve only known 3 people who’ve suffered shingles, but those who have were absolutely miserable for quite a long while. It’s the sort of thing you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. Maybe odds are in your favor, but I wouldn’t want to test it. I got the shot.

Need to shoot the lysol.....Its a virus hanging out in your ganglia and can surface at any time.

If you have a lasting excruciating pain, and you start seeing a rash (red splotches), go to the doctor. You may have shingles.
It happens primarily if you have overstressed your body in one way or another. Two years ago, I had been working physically hard, and going through emotional stress at the same time.
The pain was in my left shoulder blade. Even if I laid back on a soft pillow, it felt like a knife in my shoulder. I lost the use of my left arm for a while. Could not lift it, write or or eat with it.
I still primarily use my right arm because there is still a burning sensation in my left arm. I can use it more now, and regained my strength in it, but the burning is there all the time. It isn’t terrible, but it’s a reminder to take it easy.
