Good things about Costa Mesa CA?
Self | 04/30/2013 | Shoff

Need some freeper help and knowledge. My sister is moving to Costa Mesa CA from Cave Creek AZ. She and her family love Arizona but because of a job situation she must move to California. She is uptight about moving and I would like any freepers to let me know good things about the area, or any inside info to help calm her fears and give her something to look forward to. I know the taxes are too high, too many illegal’s, too many liberals so fill me in on good news.

An earthquake will probably kill her before the North Koreans do.

Above are the crime statistics. In Cave Creek, almost nil. In Costa-mesa...hope they all can get California CCW’s...

I used to live nearby, Costa Mesa is not too fancy but OK and near all the nice OC beaches, inc. Laguna Bch.

Anywhere south of there is a bit nicer, but it’s not the worst place in LA/OC by any means

And hey, Disneyland’s RIGHT there...

good choice, Costa Mesa — a very nice area between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. And in Orange County, known for being a more conservative county. I usually go there for the OC Fair. Great shopping mall, and there’s very nearby Balboa Island that is like nowhere else in California, that they need to see on the coast. I love the mountainous parts of LA but CM would be a place I’d like in the “flatlands”!

Well, given the difference between the state income tax rates for Arizona and California, not to mention the much higher cost of living in the liberal-utopia-hellhole of the Golden State, the family will need about a 35% increase in what they are making now just to stay even.

Perhaps more for your brother in law, but Riflegear and Frye's both have stores close by. Frye's has any kind of electronics gear you can imagine, and Riflegear has lots of AR-15 related products.

Great shopping area for guys.

Great Asian food too! There are entire shopping centers full of excellent, low cost Asian restaurants.

I think the biggest shock is going to be the traffic and how the freeways actually are just parking lots during rush hour. Literally. It would do her good to get familiar with the freeway names and numbers because that’s pretty much how things are described and oriented.

The Orange County Swap Meet is pretty awesome every weekend! Take the kids, pay the entry fee,,not sure what it is now,,$5 or so,,kids free,,and walk around 100s of vendors selling just about everything, including some wonderful food! It’s nice to just be out in the fresh air!

Oh, and there’s that little thing called The Pacific Ocean.

Stay out of Santa Ana,,full of gangs and very rough. There are some parts of Santa Ana that are nice, like by South Coast Plaza, but, that’s about it.

World class children’s hospital in Orange. Had my first two children at St Joseph’s in Orange and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County is right there, connected by a walkway.

Lots of music venues, music in the park activities, moderate climate. Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach are right next door, both decent areas.

Good luck to your family!

Best things about Costa Mesa:

1. It's very convenient to Newport Beach

2. South Coast Plaza is nearby.

3. Easy access to John Wayne Airport.

Listen to ken! We all have to “feel good” about what we do, but tell her to do the math. Throw in cost of moving, car insurance, property insurance.

"need things to cheer her up about move."

25 years living in city next to Costa Mesa raising my family. Spent those last 15 years or so looking to get out of what I saw of a beautiful place being destroyed by social ills. My work took me all around the country and elsewhere including almost every area of Arizona. Meaning I was given the opportunity to see and feel before deciding to move virtually where ever I wanted to.

For 25 years, I would not move for 2 reason. Nowhere in the country can you beat the weather on a year round basis. Relatively low humidity, except for two weeks a year. No extreme temperatures. Never had an air conditioning in the house I was raised in nor the house I raised my family. Yeah, need heating at night during winter.

Number 2. Born and raised on the beach. nuff said!

Yes, Calvary Chapel is wonderful. Cliquish but still very good. Easy to wrapped up on materialism there trying to keep op with everyone else. But no reason for your sister and family to do well.

And knowing that for the rest of your life, your vote will be all but meaningless, and therefore worthless..

Cost of living in Kali....especially in Orange County
is astronomical compared to the real world. Unless she
is changing careers to one that pays MUCH better there is
an excellent chance that after all is said and done she
will not be making enough more to cover the huge
increases in costs. Not to mention that traffic in
Southern Kali will make ANY area of Arizona look
delightful.

I think the biggest shock is going to be the traffic

One thing that stands out to me when I moved to Southern California is that accepted practice of automobile trips in and around the area is always referred to in time rather than distance.
