Age 29 is young for the death penalty - seems like it can take that many years on death row in other states. Thank you, Texas!

I’m glad they’re both gone, and any method that minimizes the murderer-lover appeals is okay with me. The one 100% guarantee is that these two will never kill another innocent person, which is the most important purpose of capital punishment. As for a more just penalty, I’ll leave that in better hands than our own.

I agree with the basic point of the article. I would say, however, that Cobb was quite possibly pulling a scam at the last minute, intentionally throwing a wrench into the words by pretending that prisoners were being rewarded with pleasure via the death penalty. I think he had probably planned and rehearsed his little speech of "Thanks" so that he could spring it on the warden and the world and just mess with people's heads.

He seemed like that kind of guy.

There is a significant difference between capital punishment and state-sanctioned torture. I have no desire to live in a country whose justice system resembles the one in Saudi Arabia.

The deterrent argument is bogus. Aholes who commit crimes like the one cited don’t take the time to ponder the method that will be used to extinguish them.

It should not be difficult to figure out whether murder rates were lower when hanging, versus electrocution, versus lethal injection, were in effect.

What I support is what works best as a deterrent, but only as determined by the statistical evidence.

Whether a particular method of execution mollifies some sensitive liberal on the one hand, or slakes someone's desire for public retribution on the other, should not be the issue.

I disagree. The death penalty and how it manifests does have an effect on crime.

The deterrent dynamic is weakend by endless appeals and long incarcerations beforehand.

The Romans perfected crucifiction as a punishment.

We on the other hand go out of our way to make cruel and unusual apply to the victim rather than the criminal.

“justice” today is a joke. Tie the POS to a tree. Give the family and friends of the victim 3 hours. Cut the POS down and throw it into a hole in the ground. Shovel sand over POS.

The death penalty is a punishment for those sick, twisted, demented, mad dogs that have committed crimes warranting such an outcome. Whether or not it is a deterrent is strictly academic. Knowing these predatory scourges on society have breathed their last and will no longer threaten their fellow man or woman is all that is important. Even in Texas, it takes too long for these wretches to go from the here to the hereafter. And when they do receive the punishment they have earned, it just isn’t enough. They simply slip away, a fate not afforded to their victims.

I agree with other posters, bring back other forms of punishment. Bring back ol’ Sparky, the gas chamber or the hangman’s noose. Let these criminals know a modicum of the fear their victims did before they meet their Maker.

Maybe the current fascist administration could use some of those zillions of ammo they have recently stockpiled to plug the criminals. Nah...that would be too easy and inexpensive.

I am ok with death by hanging. In many cases hang by the neck until dead would be more fitting.

Much as I agree, lethal injection is perfect for America, home of the liberal douchebag.

I would prefer an old world tradition...Nail them to a cross.

For a particularly heinous murder(s)I would suggest impalement. Nothing like contemplating a large sharp stick slowly working it's way up through your body via the anus to deter people from killing others. As far as I am concerned the more painful the means of execution the better, and they should be televised in order that people contemplating a career in crime can see what is in store for them.

I wouldn't be adverse to having the families of victims being able to set the means of execution and maybe actually having an active part in them. Just sayin'.
