Age 29 is young for the death penalty - seems like it can take that many years on death row in other states. Thank you, Texas!

I’m glad they’re both gone, and any method that minimizes the murderer-lover appeals is okay with me. The one 100% guarantee is that these two will never kill another innocent person, which is the most important purpose of capital punishment. As for a more just penalty, I’ll leave that in better hands than our own.

I agree with the basic point of the article. I would say, however, that Cobb was quite possibly pulling a scam at the last minute, intentionally throwing a wrench into the words by pretending that prisoners were being rewarded with pleasure via the death penalty. I think he had probably planned and rehearsed his little speech of "Thanks" so that he could spring it on the warden and the world and just mess with people's heads.

He seemed like that kind of guy.

There is a significant difference between capital punishment and state-sanctioned torture. I have no desire to live in a country whose justice system resembles the one in Saudi Arabia.

The deterrent argument is bogus. Aholes who commit crimes like the one cited don’t take the time to ponder the method that will be used to extinguish them.

It should not be difficult to figure out whether murder rates were lower when hanging, versus electrocution, versus lethal injection, were in effect.

What I support is what works best as a deterrent, but only as determined by the statistical evidence.

Whether a particular method of execution mollifies some sensitive liberal on the one hand, or slakes someone's desire for public retribution on the other, should not be the issue.

“justice” today is a joke. Tie the POS to a tree. Give the family and friends of the victim 3 hours. Cut the POS down and throw it into a hole in the ground. Shovel sand over POS.

Much as I agree, lethal injection is perfect for America, home of the liberal douchebag.

I read an LA Times article once about them trying to hang a 300+ pound woman, and it ripped her head off.

Hanging went out of vouge because of a series of messy
botched executions

Some cases the drop was not far enough to break neck so
slowly stranggled

Others dropped too far - rope would rip out chuncks of fleah
and condemmed would bleed all over...

In some cases head would be ripped off....

Or rope would break and have to repeat some 2-3 times

After he passed out, he awakes back in his cell. “We’ll try again tomorrow, maybe the day after. No time limit.” says the warden.

There’s a sleeper of a movie called “Galaxy Quest” where a reptilian enemy is torturing another alien, who begs to be killed. The Bad Guy says something like “I will kill you when I get tired of the noises you make.” I’d like to see that kind of State Revenge in cases like the above.

I spook the yell out of people when we discuss capital punishment. Somebody will always bring up multiple/mass murderers and how CP didn’t deter them. I suggest that the perp be executed for each murder. ???? As with my opening paragrapgh, one false (unknown to the perp) execution. Then wash, rinse, repeat. Maybe after the second time the perp is told only that he MAY be executed each time, up to the number of persons he killed - then add - “maybe less”. In the case of really heinous murders after the limit is reached, the perp is told they lost count and have to start over.

While I’m on this rant, here’s a sidebar I asked of a lawyer who was running for judge in our area. “If DNA can quickly free an innocent man who is imprisoned, why can’t it expedite an execution?” Deer-in-headlights. At the least absolute DNA evidence should preclude plea-bargaining a death sentence down to Life.

One thing the Saudis do right is public beheadings. Would this joker be so flippant with a big, ugly dude standing over him with a sword?

If you want to go with a softer execution, go back to the electric chair but hook it up to “The Clapper.”

The way to do this is for the congressional judicial committees to pass a law recognizing the states as “competent” to carry out the death penalty; thus removing the ability of federal judges to nit-pick the *process*, method or means of execution.

Thereafter the states could execute as they saw fit, using any ‘traditional’ means of execution they chose: hanging, gassing, electrocution, firing squad, or as at least some would still choose today, lethal injection.

I have long advocated that capital punishment be on the table for every crime in which the victim would have been justified in resisting with lethal force. That does not necessarily mean it would be applied in every case, but merely that the prosecutors, juries and judges would be able to weight the option.

In any crime where the victim would have been able to justifiably use lethal force, it is the criminal himself who has openly declared that the fruits of his crime are of greater value than his own life. Let them harvest that fruit.
