Republican ‘Old Guard’ Rips Into Rand Paul
Flopping Aces ^ | 03-11-13 | Curt

John McCain

The old guard....that old guard that gave us McCain and Romney to sacrifice at the altar of Obama, knowing full well they would lose....is at it again pulling out the knives and placing them into the backs of the new guard. The guard that has actual idea's, that actually has courage, that is willing to take on the old crony's.

Here's Bill Kristol, that champion of the old guard:

Was it, as Seth Lipsky suggested in a column in the New York Post, “wonderful,” signifying both that “our country is in a constitutional moment” and “the rise of a new generation of Republican constitutional conservatives”? Or was it, as William Shakespeare wrote ahead of the fact, “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”?

...Paul’s political genius strikes us as very much of the short-term variety. Will it ultimately serve him well to be the spokesman for the Code Pink faction of the Republican party? How much staying power is there in a political stance that requires waxing semihysterical about the imminent threat of Obama-ordered drone strikes against Americans sitting in cafés? And as for the other Republican senators who rushed to the floor to cheer Paul on, won’t they soon be entertaining second thoughts? Is patting Rand Paul on the back for his fearmongering a plausible path to the presidency for Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz? Is embracing kookiness a winning strategy for the Republican party? We doubt it.

How odd that Kristol takes the McCain "kooky" attack stance when it's abundantly clear that Paul meant, as he stated time and time again during his 12 hour monologue, that he didn't believe Obama was going to drone someone at a coffee shop but rather the inherent risk is giving this power of “judge, jury, and executioner” to future presidents decades and/or centuries into the future.

It would of course be unfair to compare Rand Paul to Macbeth—unfair both to Paul’s lawfulness and to Macbeth’s greatness (of a kind). It would be unfair to compare conservative talk radio to Lady Macbeth, just because both recklessly egg on their heroes. But it’s true that a Republican party that follows the path of Rand Paul will end up as thoroughly defeated at the ballot box as Macbeth was routed on the battlefield of Dunsinane. And as deservedly so.

Yes, because we so thoroughly defeated the Democrats in 2008 and 2012. We won the White House and gained seats in the Senate following the old guard of the Republican party.....oh wait.

I am “old” and have been a Republican all my life (very uncommon in Texas).

That said, McCain is a RINO and an embarassment to the memory of Barry Goldwater.

I am not a Ron/Rand Paul groopie, but the current “old guard” can kiss my A$$. They clearly do not reflect the grass roots of the party, historically or otherwise. If they remain on this tack, they will be severely punished for it.

They’re so out of touch, it’s amazing. They’re square dancers at a hip-hop club.

It was a simple question that Holder couldn't answer. It ought to have elicited a simple "Of course not!" but Holder couldn't manage it.

And its not about drones. Its about the right of a president to make up a list of enemies and have them killed by whatever means. Holder could have said "Don't be silly, of course its unconstitutional" and we all could have moved on.

Where the drone question comes in is a bit more involved. They are using drones to see what you are doing on your land, without a warrant. That ought to be the follow-up. Can EPA, Fish and Game, the county sheriff search your property without a warrant? Is that constitutional?

Old Guard? Are you referring to the DNC II party?

A Third party would be ruinous, however you actually need two parties before you can have a third.

Just a grammatical note, but it’s an important one because conservatives who mess these up are often dismissed (while liberals with even worse mistakes are classified as diverse):

Word’s do not need apostrophe’s to be plural’s. In general, we use apostrophe’s for possessive’s or for contraction’s. Extra apostrophe’s can be distraction’s that interfere with our message’s.

The Song of the Old Guard

by Rudyard Kipling

Know this, my brethren, Heaven is clear
And all the clouds are gone--
The Proper Sort shall flourish now,
Good times are coming on"--
The evil that was threatened late
To all of our degree
Hath passed in discord and debate,
And, Hey then up go we!

A common people strove in vain
To shame us unto toil,
But they are spent and we remain,
And we shall share the spoil
According to our several needs
As Beauty shall decree,
As Age ordains or Birth concedes,
And, Hey then up go we!

And they that with accursed zeal
Our Service would amend,
Shall own the odds and come to heel
Ere worse befall their end:
For though no naked word be wrote
Yet plainly shall they see
What pinneth Orders on their coat,
And, Hey then up go we!

Our doorways that, in time of fear,
We opened overwide
Shall softly close from year to year
Till all be purified;
For though no fluttering fan be heard
Nor chaff be seen to flee--
The Lord shall winnow the Lord's Preferred--
And, Hey then up go we!

Our altars which the heathen brake
Shall rankly smoke anew,
And anise, mint and cummin take
Their dread and sovereign due,
Whereby the buttons of our trade
Shall soon restored be
With curious work in gilt and braid,
And, Hey then up go we!

Then come, my brethren, and prepare
The candlesticks and bells,
The scarlet, brass, and badger's hair
Wherein our Honour dwells,
And straitly fence and strictly keep
The Ark's integrity
Till Armageddon break our sleep . . .
And, Hey then up go we!

Well said and ditto! I cautiously go along with Paul’s stand.
There are several other new conservatives that bear watching for 2016. And throw the damn old guard out!

The Old Steers of the GOP are whistling past the political graveyard. I don’t subscribe to some of the more kooky Libertarian Party ideas, but I do believe that the future of the GOP, if it has one, is of a more libertarian bent.

No politial quarter will be given in punishing this crop of traitors. It is coming and they know it.

Surely some of them have seen the “empty” shelves in the stores that sell guns and ammo. No one in government ordered them citizens to do that. This will not simply die down this time.

Most of the reloading supply companies are running 3-4 weeks lead time for orders. They are simply overwhelmed.

A total idiot could read the anger of the citizens. From this point whatever they do will have consequences.

It is not local, it is nationwide. The Traitorous Leftie B__tards must be wetting themselves. If they are not they are stupid.

There are even some Freepers who have been ripping into Paul.
While some of his views may place him off the reservation, he has gotten good ratings from conservative groups—and bad ratings from liberal/left groups. And his filibuster, following months of rolling over by the GOP’s leaders, was a shot in the arm.

I am not a Ron/Rand Paul groopie . . .

Same here, but I would take Rand Paul over anyone who supports gun control, over anyone who supports ObamaCare, and over anyone who does not support cutting (real cuts, not just reducing projected growth rates) federal spending.
