I'm not a lawyer but I've read at least once that it's not illegal to use an alias in this country *unless* you do so in an attempt to defraud.Trying to pass himself off as a foreigner in order to gain admission to Columbia may,or may not,constitute fraud but if he did so in order to receive a reduction in tuition/fees/expenses would,I would thing,absolutely represent fraud.So might we be talking one or more state...or perhaps even FEDERAL..felonies here?

Although,again,I'm not a lawyer I've done some research on the subject of nationality,in general,and US citizenship,in particular.My understanding is that thanks to at least several SCOTUS rulings,some dating back to the 50’s (and earlier),it is *very* difficult for a person to lose his/her US citizenship.For example it's been ruled that when one makes a formal declaration that he/she has renounced their US citizenship that,alone,does not cause you to lose it.Also,part of the US citizenship oath includes a formal renunciation of all foreign citizenships but the Federal courts have ruled that such people *can* keep,and exercise rights connected to,such a citizenship.I'm not explaining it well but,as I said,the SCOTUS has basically ruled that US citizenship is a Constitutional “right” and,as such,it's nearly impossible to lose it....apart,perhaps,from an adult citizen making a formal declaration at a US Embassy/Consulate before a government official.
