Theres an astonishing piece in Thursdays Salt Lake Tribune, and if you havent been paying attention to the sudden evolution of the Mormon churchs leadership on homosexuality, it will make your jaw drop.
Most people associate The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with overwhelming animous towards the LGBT community, heaping on the church total responsibility for 2008′s devastating Prop 8 victory.
But, wait, times are a-changing, and the Mormons are now working with Utahs LGBT leaders to help craft a statewide anti-discrimination law:
Attorneys for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are in quiet discussions with leaders of Utahs gay and lesbian community, trying to hammer out language for a statewide ban on housing and employment discrimination that the church could support.
Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, opened a bill file on Thursday the last day to request attorneys draft legislation titled Housing and Employment Amendments and will sponsor the legislation should an agreement be reached.
The church actually endorsed a similar ordinance in 2009 in Salt Lake City.
This is momentous, surely, but the Mormon faith, whether real or done for politics, is changing. In December, Mormon leaders launched a website called mormonsandgays.org, and the church stressed that homosexuality is not a choice, that all the brothers and sisters need to be treated with compassion, that we all need to love one another.

For the 2009 Lds church climbing aboard to equate homosexuality with minority class status, see:

Series of Questions:
* How does the Mormon church know that homosexuality is NEVER a choice?
* Have they rifled thru every homosexual experience in the history of mankind?
* Is this "so" of every sexual orientation? For example, do pedophiles exercise a "choice?" (Or is that, per the Mormon church, just their "sexual orientation?")
* And, if we're all born with a sin nature -- given that even the Book of Mormon teaches that men have a "carnal and fallen state" and that unless "they become new creatures...unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God." (Mosiah 27:26)...adding in v. 25 & elsewhere in the BoM that they "must be born again" -- then isn't that a far leap to say "we have NO choice" but to sin constantly...because of our "carnal and fallen state"???
Where are the so-called "conservative" Mormons in rising up vs. the Mormon church on this?
Are you on some kind of Jihad against the Mormons?
I just can't believe how fast we're spiraling downward.
Snapshot of Joseph Smiths Slanderous Invectives vs. Christian Sects |
Mormon Source[Note: Most of these are Mormon scriptures'. In fact, First three rows below are Lds 'scripture' & therefore cannot be rug-swept any more than a Jew might try to take three commandments off of the very tablets of stone Moses brought down from the mountain] |
...which of all the sects was right must join NONE of them, for they were ALL WRONG those professors were ALL CORRUPT | Joseph Smith History vv. 18-19. Lds "scripture" Pearl of Great Price |
...which of all the sects was right ALL their CREEDS were an ABOMINATION in his sight they teach for doctrines the commandments of MEN | Joseph Smith History vv. 18-19. Lds "scripture" Pearl of Great Price |
Mormon church the only Christ-sanctioned church on earth: the foundation of this [Mormon] church the ONLY true and living church on the face of the whole earth [Obvious scorched earth implication: All other churches are false and dead] | Lds scripture Doctrines & Covenants 1:30 |
Direct question asked of Joseph Smith: 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons?" Answer from Lds "prophet" Joseph Smith: 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." | Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119 [Not scripture but still publicly spoken by the Mormon living prophet and published by a later Mormon living prophet, Joseph Fielding Smith via a publisher owned by the Mormon church Deseret News Press, 1938] |
In 1952 the first official proselyting plan was sent to missionaries throughout the world It included seven missionary discussions that emphasized [four topics, one of them being] THE APOSTASY and Restoration [This makes it 60 years that Mormon church missionaries, now numbering 55,000, have formally emphasized in its training & door to door saturation a priority in bashing the worldwide Christian church as apostates (100% AWOL)] | Our Heritage: A Brief History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints p. 116, 1996 |
Maybe we should take a poll here on FR to check out the regulars
That, unfortunately, is the power of public opinion. The left has completely taken over the education, media and entertainment establishments and has convinced a majority of the public that homosexuality is perfectly okay. Now that public opinion is with the gay lobby, it will be used as a cudgel to force traditional organizations to cater to homosexuals. The Boy Scouts will cave in the end because the majority of public opinion is no longer with them. The Mormon church is probably feeling pressured to do the same. Don't think many protestant denominations won't cave as well. The pressure on them to conform on this issue is just massive. Even the Catholic church, at least in the West, may crack under this unrelenting pressure.
I just can't believe how fast we're spiraling downward.
It is scary. What passes for the "American public" at this point is just pathetic. I am not sure there is any way to reverse the damage at this point. The decline will probably just have to play itself out.
No doubt. They can also turn on a dime on the same gender issue if the current “President Prophet Seer and Revelator” gets a special message from God by which they already govern the Mormon Church.
The reason they rejected polygamy was primarily because it was adversely impacting their existence. If those tables were turned and the negative impact is not doing something else they’ll flip faster than a politician.
And note that the GOP Presidential Nominee last time, a devout mormon, implemented all the things in MA as governor that he ran as being opposed to if he was president.
The homosexual agenda (including queer marriage) provides a natural philosophical base from which to bring plural wives out of the closet. I think that’s the goal here.
Look at this last quote from this FAQ on Mormon mainstream polygamy:
Church Apostle Bruce R. McConkie stated: "Obviously the holy practice (of polygamy) will commence again after the Second Coming of the Son of Man and the ushering in of the millennium." (Mormon Doctrine, 1966 edition)
Secondary source: Mormon Polygamy - Frequently Asked Questions
What's not usually stated in commentaries upon this comment from an Lds "apostle" is that Mormons...in our generation...deem polygamy as "holy." (Note, there was no hue & cry to remove this comment from reprints after its 1966 printing...see Church-Owned Deseret Book Stops Publishing McConkies Mormon Doctrine, Claiming Low Sales...the Mormon church didn't put it by the wayside until 2010...and even then, didn't "diss" anything in the book all these years!)
She saw what her pervert husband (Joseph Smith) was doing to Fanny in the barn.
Urges are not indicitive of innateness of a condition...Homosexuality is most assuredly a choice.
I will have to say at least the Mormons get politically involved. The other faiths are afraid to speak out about anything but hell.

In my experience, Lds are AWOL -- and have been -- from most pro-life groups. Now I'm not saying they're not by and large mostly pro-life. I just haven't seen that "political involvement" there that you're talking about.
Re: state ballot initiatives defending marriage as between one man and one woman, they DID get involved in two such California initiatives. (So high five to CALIFORNIA Mormons on that).
But such initiatives have been on the ballots in other states...and haven't heard anything about Mormons beyond California.
Not a surprise. Once mormonism redefines marriage for one, they can openly practice polygamy the only way to the top level of celestial being.
Hum? So now posting information about a “conservative” group practicing mormonism, on a subject which is of concern to most conservatives, is some how a psychoblather holy war - why?
Well Willard did say that homosexuals in what he called “a loving relationship” should be able to adopt...
and as Willard is the father of gay marriage he would have to mean “legal marriage” when he said “loving relationship”
HEY !!!
Willard Mitt Romney said that, not me...
Scorch him..
