California Law Enforcement Is Losing Fight Against Mexican Drug Cartels
Friends of Ours ^ | 01/01/13 | Friends of Ours

California has indeed become The Golden State for Mexican drug cartels which have solidified their hold over the narco trade by eliminating the middle man to deal directly with street gangs in the distribution chain as reported by Adam Housley for Fox News. Of course, it's hard to place the full blame on law enforcement for failing to push back the drug cartels. After all, the border remains unsecure, many cities provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants among whom the narco traffickers hide, the entertainment industry glorifies drug culture and the criminal underworld, and so-called medical marijuana makes a mockery of the drug laws. Snide memo to California citizens: you own the drug cartels. Good luck.

The only way to get rid of the cartels is to bankrupt them by repealing prohibition on marijuana, which is the drug primarily used to finance the day to day operations of these cartels.
I don't see any moon shiners sneaking over from Mexico to tell Tequila.
But we would lose an entire infrastructure of law enforcement jobs and a winning pretext for the creation of a police state so that idea is a non starter.
Happy new year!

When the Mayor of Los Angeles is one of their own, how can they lose?

What? Are you insane? Why we’re only one more dead Labrador, one more splintered door, one more SWAT wet-dream away from winning the “war”.

Door to door; ground to air ~ those expressions can have meaning in disposing of users, abusers, sellers, dealers ~ their heirs and assigns!

It's a matter of political will and we don't see any in California.

In the coming months we will be helping more Californians relocate to Virginia as they flee the coming storm.

Institute Singapore-style drug laws. Anything less shows our unwillingness to stop the drug trade.

Because they can’t arrest drug dealers if they are illegal aliens.

Cant they just shoot them?? Why wait for the justice system that would only free them and clear them of the charges.

Look, my point is that the sale of marijuana is the bread and butter of the drug trade. Cartels use the annual multi billion dollar marijuana market to fund its other activities.
I’m not saying all problems in the world will disappear by repealing prohibition.
Prohibition very predictably creates two things; 1. a government market and 2. a black market.
The problems that face our nation cannot and should not be solved by militarizing local police and continuing to spend billions pissing into the wind.
Believe it or not the US existed and did fine before prohibition.
The government learned from its experience with trying to prohibit alcohol what a wealth of opportunity there was to expand its own power by banning and regulating substances and inanimate objects.
It’s not like the founding fathers dropped the ball by not banning and regulating these things right away.
They didn’t see the role of the government to solve every problem or ill in society.
And it’s not “stoner logic” to question the wisdom of a seemingly never ending “war” that (as far as I can tell) has only resulted in a massively oversized government and an infrastructure that can quickly be used to impose grave tyranny.
I’m open to other options. And just FYI I’m married to a woman, have my own law business, and we have three children together.
Neither one of us use drugs or hang out with druggies.
I am also a former prosecutor and I can tell you that most people in the “justice system” will admit behind closed doors that the “war” is a sick joke and exists solely because of the livelihoods that depend on its continuation.

What you said.

I’ll add that, unfortunately, even if the prohibition is lifted, many of the societal malfunctions developed in its name will live on. Three that come to mind are excessive police militarization, the TV glorification and frequent use of no-knock searches, and civil forfeiture, where the government grabs assets under the presumption they were involved in a crime and forces the “grab-ee” to sue in order to get them returned. Cash in your car? It must have been used in the drug trade. It’s ours now, sue us.

Can't prove it but empirical evidence indicates our government is in bed with the narco trade. Else we would have eliminated it long ago. Further I suggest that street gangs could be considered leftist militia. Since they routinely kill and are clearly a seditious presence, taking areas of America as their own, why does the government allow them such free reign? Because at some level the government wants them to exist. Mark my words, the gangs will be the governments street soldiers when the SHTF.

Marijuana serves the same purpose in our nation that the circus played in Rome. It is a distraction. Legal or illegal, it is a distraction. A republic REQUIRES an involved citizenry. Pot is used to keep the citizens uninvolved in what happens politically in our country. And spare me the sophistry of saying alcohol is the same. I already know that. That is such an intellectually lazy argument that it should be embarrassing to those who use it. We sit here on Free Republic and wonder why the Democrats win. Blow a little weed, and the answer will come to you.

It’s California...

Really... does it matter anymore what happens there?
