The container carriers and port operators, represented by the U.S. Marine Alliance, want to cap the royalties at 2011 levels, saying they've morphed into a huge expense, totally unrelated to their original purpose, which hurts the industry's competitiveness as it tries to keep up with new technology. The alliance says the royalty payments now amount to a bonus averaging $15,500 annually for East Coast workers who already earn more than $50 per hour.

Fire ‘em!
I can’t see Obama calling out the military to run the operations..................
I read that they’re skipping Red Stick.
Just fire them all and hire people who actually want jobs and want to work.
Those wonderful, hardworking communionists are at it again.
What sickens me the most about these communionists is how they have the US flag on their hardhats and hanging all over their construction site, as if communists are patriotic Americans.
They are an enemy of the American people and especially of working American families who are forced to pay exorbitant costs for manufacturing and service to pad their wages and their pensions.

I agree. Ronald Reagan would have fired them by now and replaced them with people happy to work for half of their regular pay-WITHOUT the bonuses.
What would we do without those who help flood our markets with cheap Red Chinese garbage? We might actually have to start making things for ourselves!
I live near the ports in NJ where there are literally mountains of empty containers; they spew forth their Asian junk, then sit empty because we have nothing to send back/sell them. There was talk about making artificial reefs out of them, but the paint removal made the cost prohibitive; there was no talk about how to put something in them that we could sell somewhere else...
I personally know of $250,000 in US exports to Korea that was already lost to a competitor in Chile simply because the threat of this.
more to come...
I agree. Fire all union workers since they are making more money than they are worth plus with outrageous benefits. The unions were fine at the beginning but now a bunch of thugs. Now have threatened to follow the Mich. gov. daughter of all things. They are there own Mafia.

Yeah, but it is fun to envision
Baton Rouge is mostly bulk cargo and not containers.
Yep, the left knows the time is ripe to grab as much as they can
Just like the Councilwoman in Detroit opined.."We voted for you now pay us back". The unions are going to go off the wall as long as the Marxist in Chief is in the White Hut!
I have already been forced to book shipments into west coast ports to avoid the potential havoc this would create. My transit expense on some shipments are more than doubling due to longer drayage and in the cases of European shipments, nearly triple the ocean voyage. My pricing contracts allow me to adjust delivery windows for force majure or labor strife, but my reimbursement rates stay the same. This is killing me.
Don't paint with an overly broad brush. A lot of containers are not just imported TVs, I import thousands and am not a wholesaler or a retailer. A lot of mine are DOD personal property shipments for military families.
There you go Bambi. Shovel ready jobs paying 50 bucks an hour!
Kick these assholes into the bay.
How many other workers in this country get a "supplemental wage"?
That’s because it’s NJ. There is no industry in the Blue liberal North any more. All of it moved south. Florida and Texas ports are doing a booming export business.
