This seven minute video from the New York Times shows the story of Chris Williams in Montana. This makes me really glad that I wrote in Ron Paul for President in 2008, and voted for Libertarian Gary Johnson in 2012. I also applaud Green Party candidate Jill Steins position on this issue.
For those of you who voted for Obama, well, I hope youre happy with his actions against medical marijuana. I hope youre happy that this person could get life in prison. I hope youre happy that people with AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, and other illnesses, who have prescriptions for medical marijuana from their doctors, are being denied the medicine that they need.

Taking illegal drugs to escape reality is cowardly. People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards.
Taking illegal drugs to escape from reality is cowardly. People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards. Show me one culture where cowardice is valued.
Nope. Taking illegal drugs to escape reality is cowardly. People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards. Show me a single culture that honors cowardice. I have had morphine. Marijuana would not be a substitute.
I’m so sorry about your mom.
I understand completely. You jump off your high horse with a quickness when someone you love is is pain.
Both of my children made contacts in highschool to help me out. I made them both back off and they were very upset with me. They just wanted to help and I wouldn’t let them risk their future so that I could have a few hours of relief.
Trust me, your mom is alright with your intentions.
I think that, for me, the worst part is being nothing more than a lump in the lives of the people I love. My pain has to come first in everything. I can’t be depended on. I can’t be counted on. I can’t even trust myself to carry through with the most basic things.
What pisses me off is what happens when I *DO* get pain relief. Suddenly I can clean. I can get off the couch. I can laugh and enjoy my family and function like a normal human being.
And then I see where my life COULD be if I had help. Not a half-life lived, but a whole woman with everything to give her family.
Modern medicine can’t FIX me. I’m unfixable. I’m broken.
But it could give me a quality of life if the LAW would just allow it.
I find your statement funny......because I don't see anywhere in the Constitution of these United States where the .fedgov has the authority to make any type of narcotic legal or illegal.
I see where they can raise an Army, I see where they can coin money, I see where they can regulate interstate commerce.......but I'm still not seeing where the authority to make marijuana illegal is enumerated. I looked for the Amendment making marijuana illegal, but couldn't find it. Which one was it again?
I do see under the 10th Amendment where such matters are left to the states.
Montana also has a law on the books (recently passed) that basically states any firearm, or firearm accessory manufactured in the state of Montana that remains in the state of Montana is not interstate commerce and therefore is not subject to federal firearms laws and .fedgov can stick it up where the sun never shines.
Nahhhhh, who am I kidding? We don't need those pesky Bill of Rights anyway. /s
Alright. I agree with you.
People who take illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards.
And where in the Constitution does it give the government the right to keep people from behaving cowardly?
Where in the Constitution does it give the government the right to protect a person from their own cowardice?
People who abuse alcohol to escape reality are cowards....
How is the government obliged to protect them from themselves?
Then someone should take that issue to the courts.Who knows what might happen!
Anyone who uses illegal drugs to escape reality is a coward. Show me one culture that values cowardice.
Why do you keep stressing ‘to escape reality’...?
You never once address chronic pain.
You never once address where it’s the government’s responsibility to keep people from being ‘cowards’.
You just reported a cancer patient who called you out on being ignorant and insulting to the plight of the chronic pain patient. I hope you’re happy.

It seems to be a big issue for some people. I'm guessing their next target will be romance novels.
You sound exactly like every single gun control liberal I’ve ever heard. You know why? Because you are. That’s why.
No crap.
After they ban “Twilight” then they can get back to me.
To escape reality... Well, I suppose that the gov’t can then ban:
- comics
- romance novels
- the scifi channel
- all movies
- porn
- dreams
- hopes
- imagination
- alcohol
- the history channel
- good lighting
- ‘friendly’ mirrors
- talented hair stylists
- makeup
- beer goggles
I’ve had cancer and yet, somehow,I’ve managed to avoid developing potty mouth.Unless his/her cancer affects the part of the brain that controls common decency I have no regrets.
I read that post and he’d edited it just as I’ve seen a thousand times on FR.
Lord, I beg have mercy upon you.
You are as righteous of an ass as I was ten years ago.
I was the anti-drug, anti-smoking, anti-fat nazi who thought that if everyone just did as *I* did, they would be alright. I stood on my box and explained (with infinite patience) how people could overcome their infirmaries if they only followed my example.
It turns out that G-d will only let you get away with it for so long before He shows you the meaning of the word HUMILITY.
Well, I’ve been humbled. I thought I knew pain. Brother, I’d been spared the worst of it. I thought I knew suffering. Not even close. You have no idea how much pain can be inflicted on the human body.
So now I stand with my sisters and brothers in the gutter of understanding and true COMPASSION.
And I am ever so sorry and remorseful of my arrogance. I will NEVER again tell someone that they’re being weak or that they can push through it. I’ve been smacked in the face by a reality, a hell on earth that I couldn’t imagine existed until I’d experienced it.
Please heed my words. Put compassion first. Even if a person is an addict who’s using drugs to ‘escape reality’ ask yourself, “what, in their reality, is so horrible that they must escape it at any cost?”
G-d has a funny way of dealing with the arrogant. If you don’t get dealt your measure in this life, you surely will in the next.
Trust me - it’s not worth it. Put compassion above all things. The price of NOT doing that is unbearably high.
Hey,you be sure to have a nice life, sweetie. And be sure to fire up those bones just as often as you can to control the pain that a *competent* doctor would be able to control without the use of illegal substances.
“Sweetie.”
Really?
Wow. You really are unbelievable.
I have been to, and been operated on, by dozens of wonderful doctors.
I am INCURABLE.
Yet, you still think that, if I find the ‘right doctor’ some magic will be performed on my body that will heal me and make me pain free.
FOR THE LAST TIME: I DO NOT, NOR HAVE I EVER, USED AN ILLEGAL DRUG.
But the WOD has made it impossible for me to get proper LEGAL DRUGS in the appropriate dosages. The WOD actually makes it ILLEGAL for my husband to transport LEGAL medication to our home in LEGAL dosages PRESCRIBED BY MY DOCTOR.
ARE YOU GETTING IT??
The government’s attempts to keep stoners from getting high has invaded EVERYONE’S lives. It keeps legitimately sick people from getting medicine.
I call you out on your unbelievable arrogance and you call me ‘sweetie’?
Are you really a serious adult??
