From 1996 through 2006… Michigan lost 318,000 [jobs].
The Wall St. Journal’s prediction has come true.
As one example, take a look at this chart from businessinsider.com. The chart shows that the “recovery” under President Obama is far worse than past recoveries. (Click on the image to see a larger version):

As another example, consider this chart from weeklystandard.com. It shows that during Obama’s first term, for every person added to the labor force, 75 people have been added to the food stamp roles. (Click on the image to see a larger version):

Between now and 01/01/2014, will soon become against federal law to layoff, fire or reduce the hours of an employee; by Executive Order.
Private businesses will only be allowed to close and bankruptcy laws will be nullified.

Looking at that top chart, it appears that if the current trend continues we’ll get back to 2008 employment level in about 2 years from now. That’s the best case, if current policies continue. If we get tax increases and further regulation, we probably bend the curve downwards again. Unfortunately we know that’s what’s coming.

Could Michigan have been an experiment to see how massive layoffs could be "handled"?
I left MI in 1975 because there were no jobs. Moved to TX. In Flint, it just kept getting worse as the years went by. Most of my family has moved out of state.
In Flint, half of the houses are empty and their copper has been removed. The other half are being robbed. You can't go for a walk without running into a loose pit bull.
Flint was once a great little town. The mayors were always Republican before LBJ. And, in order to be a policeman in Flint you had to have a four year degree.
When there are no jobs people who actually contribute the most to society begin to look for greener pastures.

Yep. My opinion only.
Revnue will not support ObamaCare and as employment changes, govt revenue will only go down.
Another opinion: 401(k) funds will be converted to government debt vehicles only.

I’ve been telling everyone I know that the country is in for Granholm’s second term. Oblahblah is like her writ large on the national scale...jack spending to out of control levels, blame your Republican predecessor (who actually at certain points had a vibrant economy), green jobs over the old standard economic jobs that actually employ folks without govt surpluses, support the unions over anything else and rampant corruption that the media turns the other cheek to.
Granholm was born in Canada and grew up in CA. She had not business being the governor of a legacy Rust Belt state and it showed. The MI state quarter is just a picture of the state and the Great Lakes because of her. No Mackinac Bridge and no Model T because that was “old economy” and we were looking forward. There’s a reason why she was an economic adviser to the Kenyan when he was freshly elected. What happened to MI is now happening to the rest of the country.

Limiting this to just Michigan understates the severity of the disaster.
Maine back in the mid eighties versus Maine as it is presently to me is an even bigger shocker.
Depressing.
Then Ms C and I spent much of our summer way down south in Chile. On the comeback from the Allende years. What a difference between there and our country. We might learn a few things from those folks. I some how remember Spanish as a slow easy going language. The Chileans speed things up but are patient with polite visitors.
