I left MI in 1975 because there were no jobs. Moved to TX. In Flint, it just kept getting worse as the years went by. Most of my family has moved out of state.
In Flint, half of the houses are empty and their copper has been removed. The other half are being robbed. You can't go for a walk without running into a loose pit bull.
Flint was once a great little town. The mayors were always Republican before LBJ. And, in order to be a policeman in Flint you had to have a four year degree.
When there are no jobs people who actually contribute the most to society begin to look for greener pastures.
I’ve been telling everyone I know that the country is in for Granholm’s second term. Oblahblah is like her writ large on the national scale...jack spending to out of control levels, blame your Republican predecessor (who actually at certain points had a vibrant economy), green jobs over the old standard economic jobs that actually employ folks without govt surpluses, support the unions over anything else and rampant corruption that the media turns the other cheek to.
Granholm was born in Canada and grew up in CA. She had not business being the governor of a legacy Rust Belt state and it showed. The MI state quarter is just a picture of the state and the Great Lakes because of her. No Mackinac Bridge and no Model T because that was “old economy” and we were looking forward. There’s a reason why she was an economic adviser to the Kenyan when he was freshly elected. What happened to MI is now happening to the rest of the country.
