Obama Campaign Accuses Dinesh D’Souza Of Pushing “Conspiratorial Fear-Mongering” With Hit Doc

If you’re not taking flak, you’re not over the target.

Via Hollywood Reporter:

Perhaps the president was hoping 2016: Obama’s America would come and go unnoticed like so many other political documentaries. But seven weeks after its opening, the film is still going strong, promptingBarack Obama to finally respond, which he has done through a lengthy entry at his campaign’s website that calls the movie “a deliberate distortion” of his “record and world view.”

The entry at BarackObama.com quotes from several negative reviews of the film and claims Dinesh D’Souza, who stars in the film based on his book, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, has a “long history of attempting to add a veneer of intellectual respectability to fringe theories, conspiratorial fear-mongering and flat-out falsehoods.”

The entry is dated Sept. 5, just ahead of the weekend in which 2016: Obama’s America became the second most popular political documentary in history, behind only Fahrenheit 9/11, and the sixth most popular documentary of any kind. The movie has earned $26 million domestically since opening July 13.

Among the movie’s inaccuracies, according to BarackObama.com, are the following:

“D’Souza falsely claimed that President Obama said he didn’t believe in American Exceptionalism …”

“D’Souza falsely asserted that President Obama funded $2 billion in Brazilian oil exploration even though numerous fact checkers and reporters have noted that President Obama had nothing to do with the loan.”

"I don’t care for political propaganda pretending to be documentary, so I’ll not pay to see this film myself."

My sister and I went to see it. It certainly is NOT a propaganda, but a true documentary (fine, I admit, I wanted some propaganda, got none and was a little bored at times).

It was nothing but FACTS. Pure and simple facts. Personally, I thought the film gave too much credit towards barry, or were too nice to him, which ticked me off (I believe he deserves NO credit).

We also learned of another barry "mentor". I'm terrible w/ names, but it was some professor who stated he and barry could no longer be in contact because it might ruin his chance at being elected.

I brought this up in another thread, and someone listed barrys 5 "mentors" from the documentary, in which I could not remember this guys name.

If you are out there reading, could you please list them again? Thanks!

Moore admitted his was basically false, since things were taken out of context and woven as the truth.

Notice there are no media asking questions, Bush could not even take a walk around te Whiehouse without being ostracized, Obama can say and do anything, no problem.

So, let’s debunk Obama’s quibbles with the movie. I’ll start with the last one, the bank bail-outs, TARP.

Tarp was voted on by the Democrat led Congress, that was joined by a lesser number of Republicans, 171 Democrats plus 91 Republicans. The NYT in 2008, gave the credit to the Pelosi led congress, so I would call it for Obama, although Bush signed it and gave out much of the money.

Another of Obama’s complaints about the film concern Obama’s views on Amercian exceptionalism.

That’s rather easy since Obama is a post modernist, who believes is relativism of just about everything, and considers history to be nothing but a meta narrative that was designed to prop up the oppressors of the world, the western White males.

If Obama thinks that America is exceptional, he believes that it is only because America has exploited and oppressed the minorities of the world. This is what Obama wanted to fundamentally change.

How about the fairy tale that the Obama campaign and the media spun in 2008?

I don't go out to the movies very often, but went to see "2016" to show support for D'Souza in his efforts to get this information out in the public.

I fear the movie is just preaching to the choir, as Obama supporters will not bother to see or evaluate anything about his background or motives.

I don’t care for political propaganda pretending to be documentary

I have seen the film. I think it is reasonably accurate, though it is done to support Dinesh's theory of President Obama's world view. It uses President Obama's own words (or words that he claims) to support the theory.

I met Dinesh a few years ago. We hit it off, and he impressed me as an honest intellectual. He did not stoop to calling the 911 terrorists "cowards" for example.

I believe that this film is an honest exposition of what he believes President Obama's world view is.
