After watching the speeches given over the past three days, it was only natural to wonder if Mitt Romney would be able to do his predecessors justice. Ann Romney did a great job, as did Paul Ryan, and a host of other speakers. Thursday night's programming was clearly designed to help introduce the real Mitt Romney to the rest of America. Many of us had not heard the stories we heard leading up to our nominee's acceptance speech. We learned there is much more to the man than he has told. These are the stories Mitt Romney is not comfortable telling, stories about himself that reveal there is much more to his inner character than we have been led to believe.
To be honest, Mitt Romney had a tough act to follow tonight. With Marco Rubio introducing him, and Clint Eastwood before that, it was no small task to pull off a convention speech that would fire up the Republican base, introduce our nominee to the rest of the country, and kick off a fall campaign that will hopefully unseat the most unsuccessful President since Jimmy Carter. In my humble and honest opinion, he did just that.
Mitt Romney did what he needed to do tonight. In his acceptance speech, he highlighted exactly why we should vote for him on November 6. I keep coming back to this point, but let me reiterate it once more. Time after time, we have been told there is not a real and significant difference between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Once again, I must beg to differ. Romney's speech explained what many of those differences were. They are fundamental differences in the America each man believes in. The latter part of his speech tells these differences well. Quoted from a transcript at The Huffington Post.
We will honor America’s democratic ideals because a free world is a more peaceful world. This is the bipartisan foreign policy legacy of Truman and Reagan. I started writing in support of Mike Huckabee and one of his main rivals in that campaign was Mitt Romney. At the time, I was focused on trying to do what I could do for the Huckabee campaign and I was not a big fan of Mitt Romney. During this past primary, I voted for Ron Paul. I do not regret that vote. However, in the past several months, I have learned a lot about the man who is our nominee. As I mentioned in the opening paragraph, there is much more to him that meets the eye. His character and integrity were never in question, but I did wonder about some of his politics. Many, if not all, of those questions have been satisfied in my mind.You might have asked yourself if these last years are really the America we want, the America won for us by the greatest generation.
Does the America we want borrow a trillion dollars from China? No.
Does it fail to find the jobs that are needed for 23 million people and for half the kids graduating from college? No.
Are its schools lagging behind the rest of the developed world? No.
And does the America we want succumb to resentment and division? We know the answer.
The America we all know has been a story of the many becoming one, uniting to preserve liberty, uniting to build the greatest economy in the world, uniting to save the world from unspeakable darkness.
Everywhere I go in America, there are monuments that list those who have given their lives for America. There is no mention of their race, their party affiliation, or what they did for a living. They lived and died under a single flag, fighting for a single purpose. They pledged allegiance to the UNITED States of America.
That America, that united America, can unleash an economy that will put Americans back to work, that will once again lead the world with innovation and productivity, and that will restore every father and mother's confidence that their children's future is brighter even than the past.
That America, that united America, will preserve a military that is so strong, no nation would ever dare to test it.
That America, that united America, will uphold the constellation of rights that were endowed by our Creator, and codified in our Constitution.
That united America will care for the poor and the sick, will honor and respect the elderly, and will give a helping hand to those in need.
That America is the best within each of us. That America we want for our children.
If I am elected President of these United States, I will work with all my energy and soul to restore that America, to lift our eyes to a better future. That future is our destiny. That future is out there. It is waiting for us. Our children deserve it, our nation depends upon it, the peace and freedom of the world require it. And with your help we will deliver it. Let us begin that future together tonight.
The differences between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are very real, the least of which is not our nominee's vision of America. Even if I may still disagree with some of his politics, at least he wants to work to bring our country out of the hole it is in. Everything Barack Obama has done since taking office seems to have been focused on fundamentally changing the direction of America. I believe Mitt Romney will work, from his first day in office, to be the kind of President who inspires us to be the best we can be. He may not be Ronald Reagan, but there is a vast chasm between Mitt Romney and the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I think I'll bet on Mitt Romney.
You are guaranteed a liberal SCOTUS with Obama.
He put 2 on board already, 4 more are waiting to be replaced.
The GOP will win their war against conservatives by miles by electing liberals
And you need 2/3s of the Senate.
So Vote for the guy of your dreams.
It is people like you who are harming my college age kids who can’t find jobs or start a business. I will bet my paycheck you have never ran a business or created a single job. You are trying your best to discourage GOP voters which only helps the self declared radical socialist from Chicago.
Romney is a businessman, not a actor or politician. That is just what this country needs under current situation. Unless of course if you are not educated enough to understand the financial situation we are in.

Nah, you know what? I am going to vote for Mitt Romney, a visibly good and decent man who loves America.
I no longer have any doubts whatsoever about who he is and what he stands for.
Not only will he be my president, but I like him.

The SC justices are very aware of the politics of their replacement and they almost always retire (Souter being a recent exception) when the party that appointed them is in power.
One of the biggest fears I have of a Romney presidency is the Supreme Court. If he is elected he will appoint liberals to replace Scalia and Kennedy who will almost surely retire during a 4 or 8 year Romney administration. They would never retire during an Obama administration. Remember Clinton appointed NO SC Justices during his second term.
Romney’s liberal SC Justices will change the balance of the Court for 40 years into the future. Obama at most will replace Ginsburg with a liberal and will not change the court.
I’d rather live with four more years of Obama than have my kids live with 40 years of a liberal SC because of the liberal justices Romney will choose..
Also, why are you certain that Romney would nominate liberal justices to replace conservatives? Don’t you think the makeup of Congress could have a role in judge selection?
Mark Levin, a staunch conservative and Constitutional expert who leads Landmark Legal Foundation and has defended the Constitution and conservative principles in many lawsuits and worked in the Reagan administration, says to save the country, Romney (regardless of his imperfections) needs to win to save our country. Given Levin’s expertise and commitment to conservatism and our country, I tend to agree with him. If you doubt me, you can listen to his archived broadcasts online free of charge.

You say they “will be retiring” then you use the term “generally?” Hmmm not exactly quantitative or guaranteed...so, at best, you are making assumptions based on behaviors of past judges. Not sure you can make such assumptions based on past behaviors. Heck, look at what Roberts did this spring regarding obamacare!!!!
Not sure of your historical assumptions...it is now past one a.m. and perhaps over weekend i will attempt look at past judge retirements.
However, I do really respect the experience, intellect and knowledge base of Levin and am going to follow his lead. Romney is not perfect in any way shape or form, and if he wins, I suspect, I will be a prolific poster railing on many of his decisions.
However, I don’t think Romney is anti-USA...Clue: Have you seen 2016? If not, would highly recommend it. After you see it, you may decide that there is indeed a difference in world views between Romney and the current administration.
You do what you think is right; so will I. I don’t believe that this country will survive as we know it with 4 more years of this progressive experiment. Like it or not, Romney is the only man on the planet who might be able to unseat the current administration. In good conscience, I cannot ignore that fact.
To be fair and objective one must understand the politics of his court appointments. They had to be approved by an overwhelmingly liberal legislature.
Romney was never going to win that fight and stack the state courts with conservatives. That was an impossible task that would have come with a very heavy political price.
I am tired of this argument repeatedly being posted here on FR. It is a narrow argument that ignores reality. An appropriate analogy would be criticizing the QB for his passer rating during a game played in a monsoon. Peyton Manning on his best day could not pass effectively in those conditions.
It’s time to get over the temper tantrum and face reality.
