What to do with $1000 right now…..
SEASONED CITIZEN PREPPER ^ | 8/6/12 | Rourke

A little while back I read a post over at IfItHitstheFan.comconcerning a recommendation on where to spend $900 on survival & preparedness preps. I love thinking about stuff like this. It is sorta like “What would I do if I won the lottery?”

Back to reality. There are many people across this great country that are just now seeing the light and beginning there preps. For many of these newcomers the question of where to begin is ever present. Some people are taking things serious and are willing to sink some serious change into their preparations – so I figured I would throw my 2 cents in. For someone relatively new to the prepping scene and having no purposely stocked supplies – a $1000 can go a long way. Here are my recommendations:

I’ve talked to hundreds of preppers over the last two years and many people who like me try and provide guidance to those who prep or starting to and the one comment I hear the most is that they have a ‘feeling’. These people are from all social, education and financial backgrounds. They say that there are demonstrable statistic that show that the number of people missing airline flights that end up crashing is higher than the average number of people that miss flights. I know myself there have been times when I have putted around doing this and that in the morning, which is unusual for me only to leave and find that a big wreck has taken place along my route to work. I say listen to that little voice in the back of you head, because there’s a good chance it knows what its’ talking about.

Something wicked this way comes, are you ready?

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf

NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”

I would add a bicycle to any good prep.
Transportation and recon, quiet, efficient, can carry a load, just a smart buy.

I’d probably spend half of it on booze and chicks. Then I’d waste the rest.

Don't do it halfway.

I have had almost flawless performance in my Marlin 795 with Federal bricks of 550 @ $18.

12 for reserve and 6 for barter. That's 18 X $18 = $324. Cheap insurance.

Most people don’t really understand how much canned food you can buy for $350.

This is survival, not dinner at the Ritz.

Canned chicken, corned beef, regular beef, green beans, corn and spinach; black beans, refried beans, and canned white potatoes. 25 pounds of rice. You’re set.

$350 will feed 2 people for a long time with those foods. Boring? yeah. Nourishing enough to live on, you bet.

Candles? What are the most economical. I was also looking at a water storage unit that’s easy to set up? Thanks.

I keep a few hundred pounds of halite (rock salt) around. Good for melting ice in the driveway and if TSHTF, will preserve any meat one might aquire rather than letting it rot.

Dirt cheap as well.

As for water I recommend this set-up as being economical and effective:

Home Made Berkey Water Filter
