POLL: Romney Has His Biggest Lead Over Obama In Weeks

Some good news for Mitt Romney today after spending yesterday getting hammered in his London trip by British press and politicians: He's leading President Barack Obama in Rasmussen's daily tracking poll by his biggest margin in more than a month.

Romney leads Obama, 49 percent to 44 percent, in the general election matchup. That nearly mirrors the result on who voters say they trust more to handle the economy. Romney leads there 49-43.

Just last Saturday, though, the two candidates were tied at 46 percent apiece. Rasmussen notes that "as with any such change in the race, it remains to be seen whether it marks a lasting shift or is merely statistical noise."

But economic news doesn't look like it's going to improve much in the short-term. Friday's GDP report beat expectations but also showed extremely sluggish growth overall. Consumer confidence, meanwhile, remained at its low point for the year.

“Friday’s GDP report beat expectations”

I sort of ‘expect’ that report to be revised later.

Can you imagine what Obama’s internal polling looks like if this is the kind of news getting out?

I shudder to think what the October surprise is going to be. Nuke on US soil? Gun grab leading to civil war?

I dont think that polls should be paid attention to until late Sept-early Oct. Trends tend to go back and forth until then.

But, having said that, an incumbent behind at this point? Point to Reagan and we can all see what is about to happen.

Yet, the most important elections are still in the Congress.
Get enough conservatives in there and the present leadership can be ousted. I can see DeMint as Senate leader. And a outside conservative as Speaker of the House.

They are already talking that it is lower than reported. Same with the Unemployment numbers.

Give Romney a couple of points from the undecided vote and he’s in ‘mandate’ country.

Now if he can just keep from insulting any more country hosts on his trip abroad meant to showcase his diplomacy skills...

The vast majority of House members will be reelected. Unless there are many Tea Party candidates running and winning against Dem incumbents, and I doubt there are, the House leadership will remain unchanged. Though several Tea Party freshmen are likely to go down, Kristie Noem for one. As for the Senate, it would take the removal of half the GOP senators to accomplish your goal. The likleihood is that there will be just enough pick up to get a majority (3 or 4 seats). Nowhere near enough to dethrone the GOP leadership. The candidates have already been chosen and the numbers for what you suggest are not there for either house. These battles are won or lost in the primaries not the general.

Mitt Romney has a lead, but he didn’t build it. Somebody else made that happen (and now we can finally give credit to Obama - he made that happen).

It's too soon to get overconfident but with Romney pushing 50% and Obama consistently in the 44-46% range, it is looking very good for Romney at this juncture, considering that the undecideds historically break for the challenger by at least a 2-1 margin.

Still, we have major events yet to occur that could change the picture even more in Romney's favor. The VP pick, the convention and the October debates, if handled correctly, could continue to flip undecideds and peel away from Obama's base. A 60-40 blowout (in favor of Romney) is very plausible but Romney needs to play the right cards in the crucial weeks ahead.

People are in denial about Romney’s power as a leader to unmask Obama. Romney has an uncanny ability to cause Obama’s mask to fall off cause Obama is FINALLY facing a WORTHY, genuine leader, who also just happens to be a SUCCESSFUL capitalist and business leader. Obama feels very threatened by Romney. And Obama’s campaign reflects that. And that’s why Romney’s poll numbers are going up. Add to Romney’s real life experience is that fact that he is extreamly articulate and not afraid to use his skills that he was blessed with. That makes Romney a formindable candidate.

I was being sarcastic and playing off Obama’s comment about business owners not buiding their businesses and that someone else did it. Sorry for the lack of /s

“Mitt Romney has a lead, but he didn’t build it. Somebody else made that happen...”

Funny.
