Francois Hollande defeated French President Nicolas Sarkozy as voters handed control of the second-biggest European economy to the Socialists for the first time in 17 years.
Socialist Hollandes simple solutions include:
=Taxes *Impose a tax on financial transactions. *Impose a 75 percent income tax on earnings above 1 million euros ($1.32 million) and raise the rate to 45 percent for the income bracket between 150,000 euros and 1 million euros per year. *Repeal 29 billion euros of tax breaks over the next five years. *Increase total tax level to 46.9 percent in 2017 from 45.1 percent in 2012 (payroll and profit). *Increase tax on biggest companies to 35 percent. *Scrap Sarkozys 1.2 percent VAT increase.
-Public spending: *Raise state spending by 20 billion euros over five years. *Allow those who have worked more than the legal minimum of 41.5 years to retire from the age of 60. *Limit pay of executives at state-owned companies to 20 times the lowest wage. *Hire 60,000 teachers and school employees and 5,000 police officers over next five years. *Hire 150,000 youths in state-subsidized jobs over the next five years. *Cut French presidents and Cabinet ministers pay by 30 percent.
Slow growth, high unemployment and staggering deficits and debts are a tumor on the economy. And France decided to take up smoking heavily as a cure to a lung tumor.

And this guy posts charts that show how screwed France is. They just doubled down on stupid.
Socialists believe that there’s only one thing better than socialism: more socialism.
The god of state.
If we can keep energy prices low using natural gas for electricity generation, we can insource their IT and datacenters, and chemical plants easily.
Same with Japan, by the way. Their factories need electricity, and they just shut down every one of their nuclear reactors.
Or we can totally blow the opportunity.
Who’s left to tax?
Well you are talking about the French.
Well at least he got one thing nearly right, although I'd cut it to at least 60%.
A Slam Dunk.
I suppose Hollande has a special sauce that goes well with Greec(as)e? Hollandaise perhaps.
LOL! Good luck with that.
Ok, luck doesn’t matter. We know how this ends, and, well.... I can’t help but laugh.
I just hope the producers get out before the borders are closed.
He’s got one good idea, cutting the pols pay.
I guess the wealthy in France are already packing their bags.
They’ve seen this movie before.
BTW, I just bought a kindle book, a novel of the french revolution. It’s called “A Place of Greater Safety” by Hillary Mantel. It’s about Danton, Robspierre and Demoullin (sp?). The author just won the Man Booker prize for another book about Henry VIII.
I hope she’s not a psycho lefty and that it’s good. It got very good reviews.
I just didn’t feel like reading about Henry VIII, he’s responsible for so much misery even to this day.
Of course, so are the protagonists in the other book, but at least that group got what it deserved in the end.
Has any one here read any of her stuff?
About the only tax policy of Hollande's that makes sense.
Hire 150,000 youths in state-subsidized jobs over the next five years.
They might as well, because all those tax increases will only ensure that the number of non-state-subsidized jobs goes down.
PING!
Some years ago I read of an immigrant who observed that America was the best place to run a business, but the worst place to raise a family.
Looks like we’re in the running for both these days. This will create a kind of negative feedback loop, as moron politicians tighten the screws and capital flight accelerates even more. As taxes continue to rise, regulations increase, yet tax receipts decline, there will be more calls for punitive measures against the “rich”, who by now have left the country if at all possible. Rinse, lather, repeat.
Haven't started it yet...I'm looking forward to it.
If I like it, I'll read Mantel's "Wolf Hall" (written from Wolsey's point of view I think) also.
The Obama-Soros-Clinton-CIA machine has manipulated and controlled the outcomes of elections in the US and around the world.
France is simply the next nation to fall victim.
The French have passed the point where a majority of gimmee guys and gals can vote themselves more of the workers money.
Of course they ae doomed because the producers will simply leave rather then pay tax rates of 75%.
Unfortunately we are rapidly aproaching that same point.
Europe will end up in turmoil and start another war sooner rather than later.
Things are not looking up.
I know that Cromwell is the ‘hero’ of Wolf Hall, that’s the one she won the prize for.
Drop me a freepmail and let me know what you think of the book.
I’m oddly captivated by the French revolution, even though I’m not very knowledgeable about it. I did read “Citizens” by Schama a while ago, found out it was all far worse than I’d thought!
I’ve never been a big historical novel person, but I just need to read something that is not a murder mystery for a change.
All the Muslims they let in and onto the voting rolls tipped the balance to the Socialists. I predict it’s all downhill for France from here on. The wealthy and productive middle class who can get out will start emigrating to London and elsewhere.
I give him a year-—When France folds up like a house of cards he will blame everyone but himself. Watch the anti-Americanism rise! Next president will be LePen and her iron discipline as France will veer right into a state that we be the the right of the Vichy Republic. This is the last gasp of Liberalism before it fades from European Governance. The French Media—like our own if filled with lefties—and worked hard to counter any change. Some sad years coming for France.
