You don't need to have a vowel at the end of your name to be a mobster.

Mike Gillich Jr., the former Biloxi striptease lounge owner who was convicted for his role in the 1987 slaying of Judge Vincent Sherry and his councilwoman wife Margaret Sherry in Biloxi, MS, has died at 82 as reported by Anita Lee for the Sun Herald:

After he was imprisoned for the crime, Gillich agreed to cooperate with federal authorities in solving the murders. Gillich surrendered the name of the hit man and also implicated former Biloxi Mayor Pete Halat in the plot. The hit man died in prison, and Halat is still serving prison time for his part in the conspiracy.

The hit against the politically prominent couple was ordered after Judge Sherry was suspected of taking another's cut from a "lonely hearts" scam pursuant to which young men incarcerated at Angola prison collected $5 million from gay men on the outside by promising to hook up with them after getting released.

I’ve seen the Biloxi episode a couple of times, most recently about 2 weeks ago.

I never tire of the City Confidential programs. There is something about Paul Winfield’s voice that captivates me. There is another narrator too whose name I don’t remember.

Pete Halat...if guilty and I have to figure he was...just this side of Satan..lord amighty

to have your best pal and his wife stone cold murdered is like ice

and these were fancy people

this stuff even linked with the killing of Buford Pusser’s wife 350 miles north

I don’t think this kind of thing is as common as in the past

I totally agree. City Confidential is one of the very few programs on television I will watch anymore. My wife watches all those real crime shows from Snapped, to City Confidential. I keep joking with her brother that she is looking for the perfect way to knock me off and get away with it. LOL...

Paul is one of the few narrators I not only enjoy listening to, but I look forward to listening to. If we could only get him to narrate a campaign commercial that exposes Obama in less than one minute. Unfortunately, he is probably a leftists also.

I don’t know anything about this, so am reposting wardaddy’s post.

Same here! Apparently, the show must be popular among FReepers.

Was that out of corinth where the bad things happened? I grew up in holly springs and saw walking tall in the theater there as a child, before it burned down.

I knew both Buford Pusser and Col. Sherry. Gillich and Kirksey Nix caused a lot of pain for many people, including my family. Col. Sherry was caring enough to look after me after I got into some trouble down in Biloxi and help me become who I am today. I am grateful for Col. Sherry.

Corinth had their fair share of the Dixie Mafia, especially at the Stateline on HW 45. This was the stopping place for people traveling from Chicago to Florida, hence the nickname for Corinth, “Little Chicago”. People that owned the hotels here in Corinth would offer gambling, prostitution, and would rob the unsuspecting travelers. Buford Pusser gained his notoriety on the Stateline cornering some of these criminals. Most of them still alive are now in their 70’s and 80’s and are quiet in their retirement.

Back from yet another anti freeper exodus and bitchy as ever.....why aren't you at true blue whatever anti freeping with the rest of the gang?

Halat did not own clubs dummy....he was a lawyer and eventually mayor
Biloxi had many many illegal casinos and strip joints

And a history of corruption....of public officials....sheriffs etc

What the hell you know anyhow?

You're not from here....you're a yankee honey
