Many people nowadays are quite aware that the world they live in is going to the toilet. Aside from the geophysical part that “seems” to be going haywire and could be nothing other than the planet’s cycles, there are plenty of manmade catastrophes that loom on the horizon. Never has the planet had as many people as now and the more people there are the more competition there is for resources. More countries seek nuclear devices than ever before and with advancements in technology this is a much easier process than anytime before. Biological and chemical weapons are also much easier to manufacture because of leaps of technology in regards to computers. Oil markets are much tighter because of the countries of China and India and their increasing need of energy to fuel their booming economies, and new finds of oil fields cannot keep up with the demand. The debacle of the world economies needs no introduction. In short, bad times, really bad times could and probably be coming to a neighborhood near you. Unless you and your family take quite seriously this possibility, if and when something extremely horrible happens, you could very well end up one of the large number of statistics.

In reality the Amish are the best group to survive it well. The only skills they need to pick up is weapons training and learning offensive and defensive tactics. They will pick that up very quickly and very well. Not saying I am a big fan of them but consider in many ways what they normally know as life doesn’t change much in this scenario.

And why do we want to even envision in living in such an dark environment?

You envision it and plan so you don't have to live in such a dark environment.

One more, from Admiral James Bond Stockdale, who spent over seven years checked-in at the Hanoi Hilton:
"This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be."

A human being should be able to:
change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
-Lazarus Long

good advice then and always

Does it count if I just use a flamethrower and set fire to the whole field? ;-)

Not saying anyone’s crazy; just that I do not choose to live like that; I’d rather be in heaven than live on earth in that mode. Doesn’t seem very enjoyable to me, and at my age, I choose to enjoy life or be in a better place.

That is sad. I choose to enjoy life. This is my home and garden. I will be adding two more arbors and four raised planters this year.

I recognize we are in the crash now. Being prepared does not preclude enjoying life. I am getting older and also have had a very bad injury. Not the first. I will get over it and proceed.

Even in a TETOWAWKI scenario, you can choose to live. That is something we do when we wake up every day. The important thing is to take the first step.

.
Do you have specific plans for getting there?

If so, Do you know anyone that has used your method successfully?

I’m not joking; your quip was poorly thought out.
