DeKalb County, GA - On Tuesday night, a DeKalb County police officer went to a family's home on Silva Court in response to a domestic dispute call.
When the officer went into the family's garage, he encountered a German shepherd who was on a chain.
Upon seeing a stranger approach, the German shepherd lunged - the officer's response was to shoot and kill the dog.
Tragically, after the damage was done, it was discovered that the responding police officer had actually gone to the wrong house.
Right now, the officer is not facing any charges - there will be an internal investigation.

Even with the relatively elastic climbing rope, the dogs know when they have reached the limit after a verbal command. My back is now fine and the dogs are quite happy to be out.
True Dat.
Zer0 and H0lder are quite happy with the situation though.
You realize I now have a permanent picture of you, curled up in bed, doing your hobby and watching tv....with a boa constrictor curled up at your feet, don’t you?
Heehehee
I did not think you were defending the cop at all. It is sad that a phone call cannot be made first.
So the dog was on a chain inside a garage... what was the cop doing in there?
Normally you go to the front door. Failing that you go to the back door. What was he doing in the garage?
“... What was he doing in the garage?”
That’s a good question. The only thing I can think of would be if the garage door was already open and thought he heard someone in there. That would be the killer’s defense.
“Tragically, after the damage was done, it was discovered that the responding police officer had actually gone to the wrong house. “
My first read was:
‘Typically, after the damage was done, it was discovered that the responding police officer had actually gone to the wrong house. ‘
Was he planning to help himself to some tools?
The mechanisms inside are prone to failure, the retractable portion is too light a gauge of cord, the handle tends to lull people into a false sense of security.
A hard pull can jerk the handle right out of the owner’s hand.
I can’t think of anything good to say about them at all.
I’m not sure who decided to combine fly-fishing with dog walking but they didn’t think it all the way through.
Not one bit.
You’re all set, then.
[if any of it’s swamp land, you’re golden]..:))
I have no idea why he makes that mistake in his pitch to sell them.
The *old* video bragged on the bronze and was part of the reason I dropped the cash for it.
The leads -do- have bronze snaps.
The other training leads I have with brass snaps are nothing to brag about.
[except for the Jaeger lead]
Cheap Chinese crap turns green and gets cruddy looking in incredibly short order.
It’s hard to find the old good “red” brass anymore..it’s all the cheaper, substandard ‘green’ stuff, now.
Agreed.
Most of the men in my family are [or were] involved with law enforcement and none of them were psycho dog killers or terrorizers of civilians.
Most of the state and county police are decent ‘local boys’, too.
The city cops are the nut jobs.
They watch too much TV.
Good gawd....This bull sh*t has to end...
The Boas tend to want to be "curled up" around my head/neck/shoulders and the Pythons like to lay stretched out on my lap, preferably with their heads propped up on me in such a way as to create maximum inconvenience.
This is my favorite Python and he laid like this for almost a half hour and my hand went numb because I didn't want to wake him up...LOL
Looking for cordless power tools?
[DeWalts pretty expensive, you know]
People tend to hate them because of how they look but they’re really the -most- humane collars ever made.
*I* hate seeing dogs wearing those stupid “head halters”.
People have no idea how damage can be done to the dog’s cervical vertebrae with those things.
They’re based on the theory of head control for a horse.
A horse’s neck is *not* a dog’s neck and their Atlas vertebrae are extremely vulnerable to sudden jerking, even if it’s done “lightly”.
[if anybody’s thinking of trying out a prong collar, spend the extra money for a Herm Sprenger brand collar...not the knock off junk in the pet store]
It's the leash, it's the garage, don't chain your dog up here, don't chain them up there, anywhere bla, bla, bla....
What a bunch of BS.
Ya know Mr. raygun, you have no idea what the circumstances were regarding why the dog was there, for how long, or anything else. You have not a clue.
The GD cop enters a private garage, private property, has the wrong GD address and the cop shoots to death the mans dog who was secured on it's own property..
And you want the homeowner shot?
I generally do not call others name, but given your idiotic comment, that makes you a level III jackass.
“The only thing I can think of would be if the garage door was already open and thought he heard someone in there.”
Well...I guess it’s a good thing that a 5 year old with a toy gun wasn’t in that garage, then.
Even a pack of high end drill bits can set you back 60-70 bucks.
I just don't see why he would go into the garage. If the door was up he could easily see there were no humans present. Overlooking the dog would be easy.
