After my back went out with the first pup, we got some prong collars.

Even with the relatively elastic climbing rope, the dogs know when they have reached the limit after a verbal command. My back is now fine and the dogs are quite happy to be out.

People tend to hate them because of how they look but they’re really the -most- humane collars ever made.

*I* hate seeing dogs wearing those stupid “head halters”.

People have no idea how damage can be done to the dog’s cervical vertebrae with those things.

They’re based on the theory of head control for a horse.

A horse’s neck is *not* a dog’s neck and their Atlas vertebrae are extremely vulnerable to sudden jerking, even if it’s done “lightly”.

[if anybody’s thinking of trying out a prong collar, spend the extra money for a Herm Sprenger brand collar...not the knock off junk in the pet store]
