Police Go to Wrong House, Kill Family's German Shepherd
German Shepherd Examiner ^ | January 18th, 2012 | Penny Eims

Posted on 01/18/2012 8:16:34 PM PST by chrisinoc

DeKalb County, GA - On Tuesday night, a DeKalb County police officer went to a family's home on Silva Court in response to a domestic dispute call.

When the officer went into the family's garage, he encountered a German shepherd who was on a chain.

Upon seeing a stranger approach, the German shepherd lunged - the officer's response was to shoot and kill the dog.

Tragically, after the damage was done, it was discovered that the responding police officer had actually gone to the wrong house.

Right now, the officer is not facing any charges - there will be an internal investigation.

Most of the city cops are losers who *couldn’t* make it as county or state cops...or even prison guards.

I can’t imagine how low the bar must be for them to get hired.

They’re almost surrealistic.

[except for the one city K9 cop I talked to for about an hour outside of a bar...he was the nicest, coolest dude ever and he loved his dog like crazy]

That power-over gestapo freak was grinning at hubby the whole time, -knowing- there wasn’t a single thing he could do about it.

As bad as I felt enduring it, I felt worse for *him* watching it done.

He doesn’t allow people to even *look* at me wrong, much less lay hands on me.

18 years later and it’s just gotten even worse.

They’re brazen and untouchable, now.

There’s a funny twist to it, though.

While he was _very thoroughly_ “patting me down”, he started to stick his hand in my jacket pocket and I warned him not to.

That just made him even more determined to get in there...and he got a big wet, slimy handful of snotty Kleenexes because it was hay fever season.

LOL

LOL!

I have to keep them in their own special room to keep their ambient humidity/temps stable and constant.

[and if there’s an escape, I don’t want big Boas running through the house, willy-nilly]...;D

Right now, it’s somewhat of a “make do” arrangement.

This summer I’m converting a spare bedroom upstairs into their permanent room.

I hope to make the Boas built-in 12 x 8 x 3 wall habitats with branches and soaking pools....:)

The Pythons will get racks on the remaining 2 walls.

The freezer that holds their food will be up there instead of out in the shop and hopefully, I’ll be needing an incubator, too.

“said the officer made an error.”

No.

Stomping through somebody’s bed of prize Begonias is an “error”.

This was an illegal search and destroy mission.

"Good 6 foot Amish made leather training lead...can’t be beat."

I make my own - climbing rope with appropriate double strand knots and a brass snap shackle. Various lengths to accommodate even cross country skiing.

I do also like my retractable leashes though. Unfortunately the current dog is difficult to train for being off leash 100% of the time (young and she's part Chesapeake).

I’ve seen the first sign, I love the second. I must buy a couple... it clearly announces my true attitude.

If I call 911, it will be to get someone to come and clean up the mess.

Over the decades, I’ve had [and still have] leashes of every kind, including round and flat nylon ones.

They just don’t have the same “elastic snap” necessary to properly “pop” the leash when training.

I wish they did because the braided nylon over rope core leashes are *so* soft in the hand.

I made one from a huge length of soft, black nylon stock rope I got at Tractor & Supply that’s a joy to take the dog out on hikes.

It’s like a like big, fat round length of woven silk.

:)

This is the Leerburg leash

http://leerburg.com/leatherleash.htm

The snaps are great and the older the leash gets, the better it feels.
[the snaps are bronze...dunno why he says brass]

The other one I use a lot is a Jaeger lead:

Really versatile.

:)

Yep, though I’d put it as: being off by a few pennies in a checkbook is an “error”. Trespassing on private property, shooting a lawabiding citizen’s dog, and threatening to murder the homeowner are all criminal activities.

“I’ve read stories of dogs darting into the street and getting hit by a car while on those craptastic things.”

Do you know this almost happened to me?

I was driving home 1 evening (dark) near a school where often people parallel park on the main road. After I turn onto that road from the connecting main road and start speeding up, I notice parked cars and then what looks like an Irish Setter step out from between cars into the road! On that retractable lead probably let out about 12 ft at that point! Luckily I wasn’t at speed yet or might’ve hit him.

Damn morons with retractables.

To me, retractable lead says “I have absolutely no control over my dog”.

Have you had any problems with color transferring from the Leerburg leash you own?

I know someone personally that keeps their German Shepherd in their garage at night. You’re saying they should be “shot summarily”. Try it, puss, and I’ll guarantee you a one way ticket to Hell. Cops have become psychopaths and shoot dogs for fun. Any cop afraid of a chained dog, much less at the wrong address, is a psychopath that needs to be put down himself.

"the snaps are bronze...dunno why he says brass"

Bronze, being a marine alloy, would be better than brass. I do know that the brass swivel, snap shackles are superior to the chrome plated steel ones.

Our Lab used to love to go beyond the breakers to retrieve, our Lab/Chesapeake/?? Mix is happier to stay just short of the breakers.

The easy digging in the sand? ....Happy Campers.

"To me, retractable lead says “I have absolutely no control over my dog”."

Not necessarily. I keep my dog on heel when walking by the busy street. She's allowed to chase squirrels (within the limits of the leash range) on the side streets.

Not all breeds are as easily trainable as others.

But why should 1 allow a dog to run and gain more control with a longer lead in public?

If I want to *condition* my dog, I’ll use a 16-20ft lunge line, permanent. Fabric. Not a retractable which is like a knife through butter steel cable if she wants to run right by me or wrap me up. But I will not allow “walking” a dog on anything beyond old standard 6” - unless the lunge is all I have left.

Heartbreaking.. Also heartbreaking is that the dog was chained in a garage.. Poor thing couldn’t win.

If that had been my dog, an internal investigation would be the least of that cops worries. I don’t care who you are, you shoot my dogs, you’re going to have to have the gun surgically removed when I’m done with you.

The real problem is the militarization of local police.

In America’s past cops were trained to be ‘peace officers’ - they did what they could to keep the peace (keep situations from escalating).

Now they are on some sick power trip to control the ‘civilians’ - not realizing they are civilians too - they aren’t soldiers.

I support sane cops to the hilt. The insane one’s with the ‘us vs them’ are the cause of all the problems.

I blame the training and the whole police state mentality that is overtaking the country.
