Leftism Makes You Meaner

Only a fool believes that all those with whom he differs are bad people. Moreover, just about all of us live the reality—often within our own family—of knowing good and loving people with whom we strongly differ on political, religious, social and economic issues.

That said, I have come to believe that the more committed one is to leftism, the more likely one is to become meaner.

Two examples in just the past week offer compelling evidence.

Prominent left-wing commentators used the way in which Rick Santorum and his wife handled the death of one of their children to attack—make that mock—the former Pennsylvania senator. …

(L)eftism fills many of its adherents with contempt and hatred. It takes a person of great character and self-control to continually imbibe and mouth the mantras of the left—that everyone on the right is sexist, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic, islamophobic, racist and bigoted—and not become a meaner human being. If I believed just about everyone with left-wing views was despicable, I would be meaner, too.

In a previous column, I wrote about Thomas Friedman making one of the classic anti-Semitic libels when he wrote that the reason the Senate and the House gave Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing ovations was because "that ovation was bought and paid for by the Israel lobby." How does a Jew write an anti-Semitic libel? Because he's on the left. …

The reason why the left is meaner is because they are more fearful of the future.

Everything the left believes is tainted in the central thought that the world will one day run out of resources and there will be nothing for them.

Leftists are evil, but they don't know it and won't admit it. For whatever reason, leftists seem focused on the immediate, typically good, results of their programs. Conservatives consider the long-term impact of what's done.

Consider “free” health care. A leftist only sees the immediate impact—an injury healed or a disease cured. It's not so much that conservatives don't want the same thing, it's that we are concerned that injuries and diseases are cured not only today but tomorrow. We believe demand for “free” services always outstrips supply, so “free” health care is ultimately rationed care. The end result? Poorer quality care for a greater number of people.

What about one-world government? Leftists adore it, because they think a one-world government will be strong enough to finally fix every problem. They are oblivious to the tens of millions of people killed by their own governments in the 20th Century. A one-world government won't fix every problem, but it will have the power to rule over us like nothing ever seen before.

Leftist policies bring misery. They might succeed for a time, maybe even for decades, but the end results are always the same—less freedom, more repression, and greater misery for all. That's why leftists are evil.

I can honestly say just about every liberal dominated discussion from certain local newspapers to some very well known political forums that are democratic supportive I see in them the same predictable results.

majority of the comments will evolve into who is the alpha ego, then those are targeted if they make a single mistake or show the slightest weakness. Profanity spews from the onset and is the norm.

They will eat their own.

I tend to agree with you. Mean-spiritedness is what brought up the whole Santorum baby thing, I think.

Otherwise, why even mention it?

Different families have different ways of dealing with loss and grief.

I have been away and out of touch (no internet access) for the last week so I didn't know what that was all about. After reading Mr. Prager's column, I don't think what the Santorums did was "weird" at all. It makes perfect sense to me. Not everyone handles the death of a newborn that way, no. Is that to say that the "usual" way of leaving the baby at the hospital is best? (We are only a generation or two from most births and deaths taking place at home, and most bodies being prepared for burial by the families.)

And, again, why bring this up at all? This is one of those things that should truly be private, a family matter that is really not everyone else's business. I can't see any reason whatsoever to bring it up. As far as I'm concerned, that in itself is despicable.

I personally think it’s very weird to bring a dead infant home to show to a family. I also think funeral parlors where the dead person is put on display is weird. That’s just me. I don’t think Santorum is weird, but if I were a child, I wouldn’t like it if my parents brought home a dead baby to show me. However, Colmes is still an ass for suggesting that the Santorum’s brought the baby home to play with.

What about yesterday’s show, when he dissed Newt and praised Romney? Looks to me as if Dennis has gone over to the same side as Coulter, Steyn, Will, Hume and Krauthammer.

Some leftists are like that, but I think the vast majority are dupes. I used to be politically liberal, so I can remember how I thought at that time. I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking things through and lacked the wisdom to see life more clearly. Leftism, for the masses, is generally emotion driven. However, I do agree some leftists, especially the leaders, know the real score. Given the power, they would create more evil and misery on earth than man has ever seen before.
