... and Romney is exponentially better than Obama.
But I can't vote for Romney since he continues to insist that mandates are a "conservative" principle and other reasons. I just can't do it.

Romney is the only R who can win , as much as it pains me to say it .
There is no "winning" with Romney. We would be electing another progressive, only a worse progressive as Romney insists that his progressive policies are really conservative, e.g. mandates.

I’ll agree some of that us what he says....while is he is trying to win the GOP nomination. If we are only going to go off what he says, let’s include what he said he was for when he ran against Ted Kennedy.

All you can judge us his record of accomplishment. His biggest accomplishment was forcing socialized medicine on his state and giving Obama a blueprint for Obamacare.

A mandate is a mandate. I’m not sure you think it’s suddenly so much better when it is coming from your state capital as opposed to the nations capital. Can you explain why you are in favor of states forcing socialism down your throat?

By the way....you conveniently didn’t address the fact that Obama defines the rich at $250k, while your boy Romney defines it at $200k.

Face it. Romney is a better fit on the Dems ticket than the GOP.

If you want to support the destruction of conservatism in one of the major party’s.....go ahead and support the Socialist..and yes Im talking about your boy Mittens.

Newt looks like the guy women regret they married.

Romney looks like the guy women wish they had married.

Newt will be a lead balloon w the women vote. For the general election - we need to get rid of Obama - period.

Well done and definitely a troll, what kind of troll remains a little unclear, but the first post on FR was in 2008 and said this:

"Romney is exponentially better than Obama."

True, but is that enough? The USA is being driven over the cliff by the Federal Government under control of the political class.

Let's run the numbers. Let's say Romney is 10 times better than Obama. Also, to save the country, we need someone 100 times better than Obama. Electing Romney will make no difference in our fate. Therefore, electing Romney is a waste of time and in the end will only hurt the cause of constitutional government.

How does Romney distinguish himself from Obama in the general election? They both support all the same policies.

Exactly.

Can't you just picture an Obama-Romney debate?

BO: “My opponent has the same position as me on socialized health care.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has, many times in the past, expressed the same position that I have on immigration.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has the same position as I do on gun control.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has the same position as me on gay marriage.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has repeatedly expressed in the past the same position on abortion that I have.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has demonstrated while governor of Massachusetts that he is willing to appoint three times as many democrats to the bench than republicans. While I’d not appoint any republicans, his position on judicial appointments are 75% of the way a reflection of my own.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “While it is well known that I’m no fan of Reaganomics and its attack on the middle class and lower class of this nation, my opponent expressed the same attitude in the past when running for the U.S. Senate.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “One area where my opponent and I DO differ on is jobs. I fight for them, while my opponent spent 25 years at Bain Capital buying struggling companies and tearing them apart and putting hard working people in the unemployment lines so he and his Wall Street buddies could pocket the profits.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

And on and on ad nauseum. I’ll take my chances with Newt over Romney in a street fight with Obama ANY DAY.

I understand fully your argument, but I don't think it's an all or nothing at this point. We need to at least slow down the momentum of the progressive decline of the US into a European-type socialist welfare state. In that context, any of the Republican candidates would be better than letting Obama - unleashed by a second term - accelerate his agenda. Think of it as having an infection. To cure it you need antibiotic X, which isn't available right now. Antibiotic Y is at least 10x less effective, and ultimately won't cure the infection, but it can slow down the infection and prevent septic shock until a better antibiotic is obtained. I'm not, as I said, a Romney fan, and I am certainly not pushing his candidacy, but I think defeating Obama is too important at this point.
