Barter Items

Obviously if you are reading this article you already have a modicum of common sense about the impending changes to our capitalist system or the prophesy about the collapse thereof. Some people who have been out of work and have given up on ever finding another job are no longer counted in the unemployment figures since the change in how they are counted so politicians can justify their piss poor job performance…..the rate currently in reality is something akin to 20% not below 10% as touted. Almost 50 million persons receive food stamps and on the rise. Less than 50% of citizens actually pay taxes.

This list was provided by a commenter on GBTV There has been considerably accurate information on the course of events over the past few years submitted by Beck.

Most everyone of these items can be used as barter when the dollar eventually collapses and is worthless. There are some pretty powerful people and organizations working quite diligently to make sure that the devaluation happens while they appear at the same time to be propping the currency (and the country) up. Anyways, be sure to have appropriate numbers of containers that can hold smaller quantities of some of these items – for instance – coffee or liquor. Suggest you make that instant coffee – easier to prepare without electricity.

Store these items in plastic sealed containers if you got enough room or increase the amounts on hand for yourself and mark up the items with your own code to determine which items are for barter…..this could be too simple, but how about “B”. KISS.

We will add more as we see fit……

I’m 60 years old. I’m starting to believe none of this will happen in my lifetime. So I’m going to start eating my stored food. For you younger folks, all I can say is “I’m grateful I got to live and grow up in what was a great nation. I don’t envy you.”

Correct! One should store Calcium Hypochlorite (pool shock) make sure it only contains Calcium Hypochlorite only and no algeacides.

Calcium Hypochlorite is highly corosive. I place mine in its originial bag inside another tightly sealed bag and then in a empty plastic coffee can.

You know what’s gonna happen don’t ya? when your stored food is almost all gone, its gonna happen.

whenever I start thinking about prepping, I remmeber the movie “tremors”. They guy that was the gun nut and prepared for every possible disaster scenario...he didn’t prepare for gigantic prehistoric predatory worms. That’s what will happen. No matter how much you prepare, the one disaster you don’t expect and don’t prepare for is the one that will happen.

You got to have something to repair torn duct tape with.

Duct tape twice, also. I would add adhesives, sealers, and caulk, and both electrical tape and plumbers’ tape. Duct tape is probably worth listing twice. All Red Green jokes aside, I’ve made all kinds of things out of duct tape, including a protective jacket for my Bible.

A good supply of nails and screws and the all-purpose fastener: #12 smooth wire. #9 is OK, but it is a little stiff for field-expedient repairs.

Yeah look how few of us really prepared for Obama.

The cleaver is the greatest tool.
Someone should build one with a magnifying glass in the blade ☺

So I’m going to start eating my stored food.

I didn't have a choice, because of the economy, and went through most of my stored food.

I'm grateful that I can restock right now.

It's good to have because the stuff can hit the fan for you personally, even if society keeps ticking over.

You might go into the formal wear business with enough duct tape!

LOL! I have a knife case that's been all over the world with me. It contains about $600 (2002 dollars) worth of knives. Some are hand-crafted Japanese knives.

But I don't own a cleaver.

I owned 2 when I started culinary school. I sold them to suckers younger classmen.

I do, however, have a bow-saw that is used only for meat.

I’ve always been the prepared kind and when we were on the edge of losing everything in 2008 I only spent about $50 a month excluding the regular bills like gas and electric and that was mostly for things that I could live without if the SHTF.

Some use it, some don't. I won't anymore. Cleavers tend to bury bone slivers in meat. The bone dust a saw creates can be washed away.

And unless I'm cutting through bone, my 8" chef's knife, 5" boning knife, or 3" paring knife do 98% of my work. I only use the 12" carver for slicing rustic bacon and Steamship Roasts.

Different schools, I suppose.

I never use a clever to smash bone.

For some reason, my wife rejected my offer to custom fit her with a duct tape bra.

When dealing with an entire pig carcass... Which I do... After removing the loin and tenderloin... to get the ribs off the backbone, I use the bow saw. I was trained how to use the cleaver for that, but I prefer the saw.

Different schools. I deal with lots of primals and whole carcasses of larger animals. Heck, for a chicken, I can part one out with my bare hands and still have the skin intact for later stuffing. Harder to do with a pig. ;)
